End of Strike Favored by Mobile Marine Engineers
Members of the Mobile branch of the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association reportedly voted to end the strike that has been in effect since May 1 though officials would not disclose details of the Sunday meeting. Nationwide unions were voting on a tentative settlement involving a 15 percent wage cut with possible overtime pay adjustments. Three Walsh Stevens tugboats were reported in operation and a crew would be secured for the Echo tug. Thirteen of fourteen seamen arrested for disorderly conduct after a fight were discharged for lack of evidence. Charles Nelson faced an added charge of being dangerous and suspicious as Attorney Alex Howard questioned police holding. The case was postponed to next Monday.

Loss in oil blaze tops $500000 in Butler refinery
In Butler Pennsylvania seventy five thousand barrels of crude oil in five tanks at the Valvoline Oil Company refinery were destroyed and a sixth tank with 15009 barrels burned this morning. The loss including tanks and nearby buildings is estimated at $500000 and could rise. Firefighters are paid seven dollars an hour. Special firefighting equipment was rushed from Pittsburgh.
