The Mobile Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual membership meeting on Thursday June 6 at Mobile Country Club. An afternoon program features golf swimming tennis and bridge with some special events before a 7 o’clock dinner and smoker followed by a brief business session.
Charles White, a former U S Navy man, was arraigned by Recorder D H Edington after police accuse him of burglarizing several city homes and a rooming house. Officers found clothing and a coat tied to the Jernigan and McAfee burglaries and say he posed as a railroad worker to commit the crimes. He awaits a Friday morning reset.
Washington May 20 Senate will begin study of the tariff measure after its passage in the House by 264 to 141. Finance committee chairman Smoot said the six week estimate to complete work before reporting to the senate, with a summer recess planned and bill ready after reassembly from vacation.

William Van Antwerp Jr a 16 year old Murphy High School junior died at 8 this morning at the family home 1211 Selma Street after a short illness. Funeral arrangements are by Tom McKay and will be announced later. He fell ill Friday night and is survived by his parents an aunt in Denver several cousins uncles aunts and other relatives.

Disorderly conduct charges against Charles Shake News Item and George Albright Press were dismissed in Mobile court this morning. Shake’s attorney William B. Inge said the Mobile Register and News Item would cooperate to maintain order among newsboys. Albright was represented by Max Rogers of Stevens McCorvey McLeod Goode.
The Mississippi state plant board barring entry of Florida fruits and vegetables subject to the Mediterranean fruit fly unless accompanied by a certificate of inspection. Officials of the Southeastern Company announced the rule here yesterday and the express company is forbidden to handle such shipments.
Dan Jones charged with violating the prohibition law received a $50 fine or 20 days with 90 days hard labor after a morning trial. He gave notice of appeal with bond set at $200. Mrs. W C Hartley and T E Diamond were fined $50 and costs or 20 days each.
