In a wakeful dawn, sergeant at arms and deputies roamed Washington hotels and yachts to seize quorum. Senators, moonlit, clashed between sleep and duty as warrants were read. One pajama-clad figure laughed at the arrest order and did not answer the call.
Bernard Bok of Bridgeport Conn pleaded guilty to first degree forgery in police court for defrauding his benefactor. Recorder D H Edington set bail at 750 dollars. he failed to post and was sent to the county jail to await the June 25 grand jury action.
A seven year old girl Dorothy Sielagowski was taken from her bed in Toledo Ohio by a man in a black suit. Police chased a small covered auto seen nearby. Coroner ruled death by strangulation and investigators questioned a man described as a possible accomplice.
City Commissioner Harry T. Hartwell cites a blaze at the Jackson and St Francis streets oil truck as proof the Foamite truck should stay in service with a designated chauffeur. An underwriters inspector recently urged discontinuation except in emergencies. Hartwell says the quick response prevented a disastrous fire.
Showers today eased the heat and hint at near seasonal warmth. Temperatures tonight and tomorrow stay steady as unseasonably high heat begins to normalize with returning warmth forecast.
The county plans a public bond auction to finance paving 192 miles of highway and building concrete bridges. Bonds may be sold in whole or part with bids and bond market conditions guiding the total amount. New York May 29. Directors of the John Warren Watson Company, manufacturers of automobile shock absorbers, skipped the regular quarterly dividend of 50 cents a share on common stock due at this time.
Washington notes the American embassy in Mexico City delivered a formal demand to the Mexican government seeking immediate arrest and punishment of John F. Nolaine, an American citizen, who was shot to death in Bes, Mich. in a May 19 incident attributed to a Mexican mining worker.
A Norwegian naval air search to locate the missing dirigible Italia is scheduled for 1 o clock this morning. Large aircraft will join the hunt led by Lieut Lejene and the flying ace Hoe, pursuing reports of a sighting near Oblo and Maysition.

An 80 year old man accused of shooting William Tuttle received a fine of 10 dollars plus court costs and 66 days of hard labor in the recorder's court. A second man, Charles McCasker, formerly with Lord's Tire Service, was sentenced to 20 days hard labor after a trouble call incident. Local testimony from Wilton Lord was admitted.
Convicts linked to the Folsom riot last November were found guilty of murder and conspiracy. Leaders named include Tony Brown of San Francisco and others. the six men were sentenced to death for killing guards during the prison uprising. Stewart’s testimony previously shifted prospects toward life imprisonment.
A lawsuit seeking 25000 dollars was filed against the United States Shipping Board and Bruce Dry Dock Company of Pensacola for the death of Joe Orso of St Stephens Alabama. Orso died last August after falling through a tarpaulin covered hatch on the Corvette Coronado at the Bruce plant in Pensacola where he was working. his body was found the next morning.
Norfolk May 29 The cap sized yacht similar to the Giant that had been missing for two months was destroyed today by the coast guard cutter Manning about 45 miles off Winter Quarter. The white craft with a green bottom yellow gunwale and red stripe carried nine aboard from Charleston, D C, when it vanished.
The International Paper Company signs 1928 newsprint contracts with a three dollar per ton reduction f o b mill. The old price of sixty five dollars per ton remains for the base, with a freight equalization allowance affecting the final net.
Consul Bokin announced immediate closure orders following a fire at Foochow based Christian university. Authorities deem the blaze incendiary amid rising anti Christian sentiment in the southeast Chinese province of Kiang Te. University property suffered significant damage.
Houston officials viewed with satisfaction the three acre Coliseum under construction for the Democratic national convention to be held next month. Work began March 8 and the city council voted to accept the building.
Fire in Ferriday Louisiana destroyed the local ice plant causing about 1000 in damage. The loss was largely insured and officials said the plant would be rebuilt at once.
