Berlin reports a forecast of a joint Russo Romanian attack this week as stated in an official dispatch. Separate Verdun notes say French forces seized a German post near Vacherauville and two German assaults on the Champagne front near Hurtebise were repulsed after heavy bombardment.
The Allied and Central fronts show limited infantry action with heavy air engagement. General Cadorna reportedly pushes Austrian lines toward Trieste while French and British fronts see intermittent raids and repulsed attacks, Verdun activity rising and Germany facing sustained pressure. Brazil shifts toward active involvement as neutrality wanes.
A Budapest telegram reports Emperor Charles has appointed Count Andrassy premier of Hungary. The post was vacant since May 23 when Stephen Tisza resigned amid franchise proposals and standoffs over the throne.
Forty one cases of beer seized by police at the Louisville Nashville freight depot on Tuesday. Prohibition officials claim the shipment was illegal and the matter will be heard by the recorder this week.
A column by Mrs. A. B. Ross arguing Mobile should attract investment with incentives and staying power. The author urges unity to build shipbuilding plants factories and other enterprises to draw people and money to the city.
All persons between 21 and 30 must register on June 5 with no exceptions. Mobile registration runs 7 AM to 9 PM per Mayor Harry Pillans. Absentees may obtain blanks from county or city clerks and have them completed there for registration. Continued on Page Two.
A petition signed by sixty five street department employees calling themselves the Pillans Gun Club and offering services in trouble was received and filed by the commission. The ordinance preventing minors from selling junk metals or household fittings was adopted with the phrase waste paper rags or bones. The city clerk was authorized to seek bids on about one square yard of cement sidewalk paving under No 24.
The Gulf Coast Poultry Association postpones action on affiliating with the American Poultry Association until June 12 due to a patriotic Bienville Square meeting. A quorum was missing at a recent conference, and the June 12 session will decide both affiliation and whether future shows are judged by score card or comparison. E. E. Richards urges poultry growers to participate.
The Marine Lumber Company Incorporated with $7,500 capital, filed in the probate court. Incorporators are Clead Henderson of Mobile, E. T. of New York, and F. T. of Choctaw Bluff, Alabama.
May 29 forecast from Washington reports fair weather across Alabama and Mississippi. Interior regions will see warmer conditions while coastal areas remain fair.

Reuters dispatch from an unnamed port says all hope is abandoned for rescuing missing from the sunken Spanish liner C. De Bisza guirre. Victims include twelve women and five small children.
Callie Piper of 508 St Louis Street is in city hospital with a suspected fractured skull after a fight early today. Cleo Hare is accused as the attacker and faces assault and battery and disorderly conduct charges with no bail set while Piper’s condition is evaluated.
Grand Bay officials announce that the Gulf Coast Horticultural Society will hold its first 1917 field meeting there. Directors accepted the invitation, the town being convenient for South Mississippi members to attend and return the same day. The society counts over 500 members, second only to Florida in the south.
Governor Henderson left Tuesday for Tuscaloosa to attend the annual board of trustees meeting of the university and will be present at the closing exercises. He will also attend the closing exercises at the Alabama Polytechnic Institute in Auburn next week.
The Associated report says Moss Point Mississippi will construct 30 merchant cargo steamers of about 3,500 tons each. These steel ships are part of wartime orders and will replace wooden vessels as the emergency fleet corporation winds down wooden shipbuilding.
The casualty list from yesterday's tornado across Alabama stands at 50 dead and 206 injured. Two injured patients died in Birmingham hospitals, Mrs. W. M. Herman of Carbon Hill and H. Z. Jolly of Sayre, with several others not expected to survive.
Communication after the tornado cut has been restored revealing large distress in Carbon Hill where about 1,000 people are homeless. Aid is urgently needed including money and clothing as mining camps shelter victims and manufacturers aid camp towns. Continued on page two.
The Atlanta temple of the Mystic Shrine plans to organize and finance a Red Cross ambulance corps for service abroad. Dr. Napole Brewer of the U S Army Reserve is designated to organize the unit, the Arab Temple Ambulance Corps, largely from temple members. An Army officer will assist in formation and the corps will move to Aller Pa to be outfitted for France duty.
The American schooner ret B. Rouss, sailing from St Irens February 4 with pine lumber for Gen, was sunk by a German U boat. Captain Fred D. Foot arrives from France saying the crew of six were adrift in open boats. They reached Monte Carlo after a patrol boat rescued them. The Margaret B, well known in port, had called here recently.
A convoy of witnesses described Fisher Brooks objecting to a mat from his car used as a seat cover during a picnic with mulatto women. Blood on the mat was confirmed by chemical tests, with further statements from Mary Brooks and others challenging Brooks’s whereabouts and conduct.

William Lorimer former United States senator and banker is recovering at his home Jonesville Louisiana from a sawmill accident. A heavy chain snapped and lashed his right arm breaking it in three places though his condition is not serious.

Remaining workers stayed at the yard as two battle cruisers two dreadnoughts and six destroyers were alerted to the facility as part of a new naval building program.
Montgomery May 29 The public service commission postpones its June session to June 12 due to a tight docket. The sole docket items are Southern Railway petitions to discontinue eight passenger trains and West End Birmingham residents seeking a new station and agent. Widespread protests are expected from Nashville territory Huntsville Rome Anniston Selma Thomasville and Mobile residents. The June 13 hearing also covers Birmingham tele phone rate readjustment with an auditor's findings to be presented.
Washington reports German influence connected to opposition to army registration and the selective draft. A Texas grand jury indictment cites an organization formed to resist conscription, using oath secrecy and even obtaining high powered rifles to intimidate registrants and officials.
The department of justice pledges full enforcement under existing law and the new espionage bill as Congress nears completion. Across the nation scattered efforts to interfere with registration appear unconnected, with prominent cases in Texas and Virginia. William Mc Coy and J. W. Phipps, well known in the Roanoke feud region, are jailed with agents claiming solid evidence they organized resistance to the measure.
Attorney General Gregory states arrests should serve as a nationwide warning to avoid hindering army registration. The espionage bill section on interference carries penalties of twenty years imprisonment and a ten thousand dollar fine.
