Whistler Shop Employees Enjoy Bayou Picnic Outing
Several hundred employees of the Mobile & Ohio Railroad shops at Whistler begin their annual outing to Bayou la Batre. The group left Whistler at 8 this morning by special train for a day of fishing and recreation. The Murphysboro band and M&O shops baseball team joined the picnicers, hoped to mark the event as the most successful in the history of the outings.

Captain James Bazell Dies, Prominent Alabama Oysterman
Captain James Bazell aged 70 a veteran oysterman on the Alabama coast died at 5 this morning at his daughter's home in Mobile after a long illness. A native of Greece he captained several large oyster schooners from Bayou la Batre and Herron Bay. Survived by three sons, two daughters, five grandchildren, and other relatives. Body taken to Bayou la Batre. funeral set for Sunday.

A legislative committee in Lipan opened the wrong grave while moving the remains of T. S. Drew, Arkansas governor 1844 1849. The grave contained Joe Drew’s wife instead of the pioneer, and the baby lay between them. Joe Drew’s 70 year old memory misled the crew. the misidentification was confirmed by a tucking comb and a lady’s slipper sole. After re burying, the bones of T. S. Drew were exhumed and sent to Arkansas.
