Mobile shifts to rapid tent city expansion as families displaced by last Wednesday’s fire move into rapidly erected shelters. Workers from Camp Shelby and local teams set up 150 tents with gas stoves and sanitary facilities. A relief fund of 500 dollars supports babies while shipper protests push Washington for vessel allocation.
Calls were made to move furniture and belongings to a storehouse at Hamilton and Dauphin. Residents who lost items can identify and recover them by calling a Bell phone number. A large choir with a twelve piece orchestra will perform the Hallelujah Chorus as the second Sunday Community Sing in Bienville Square tomorrow at 4 30. The program includes classical, popular and folk songs led by Mrs Carl Kinge who directed last summer and is now with Wet Camp Community Service with Mr J H Miller of the W C C and Co leading the singing.
M B Barpe and FE M Bailey were fined 101 dollars each plus 500 deys costs after a Saturday trial for violating the prohibition law. They paid the fines. A separate case tied to Bidesea Page involved whiskey in an automobile near Cherry streets about ten days ago, with Deputy Sheriffs Blackman and Easterling involved. Loree Steel received sixty days in county road for stealing 5 dollars and 65 cents from Jeff Neely the butcher.
Richard McClellan, a Black man, was shot and dying after an incident in a section house at 5:30 on Saturday. Jim Cates, another Black man, fled the scene after the shooting as authorities investigated the attack and reported the incident to police headquarters.
