Mrs Cassidy maneuvered a wagon in a weary journey to reach city hospital after her husband fell fatally ill with kidney trouble. She drove to police headquarters then the City hospital ambulance was summoned to admit him for treatment.
In the Mather Colleries Company mine at Mather Pa nearly 200 were killed or entombed by a blast. Frank Krubik was found alive at butt 14 after about 60 hours amid wreckage. He walked out with two helpers, appeared in good health but described as haunted by afterdamp. Rescue crews recovered 59 bodies so far and continued searching for more survivors.
Prohibition agents wiped out a battery of moonshine stills about three miles south of Hurley Mississippi after a scouting squad located wire entanglements and a hidden bell warning of intruders. Trial before Justice Callaghan began with jury selection. He noted Mrs Knapp’s physician explained her illness in detail and said the condition is temporary, keeping her from required attendance until tomorrow. Charges relate to her conduct of the 1925 state census.
Henry Adams former Texarkana police chief must spend life in prison for the murder of Deputy Bob Smith. The state supreme court ruled Adams to serve life, reversing his first appeal and ordering his arrest at Texarkana to take him to the penitentiary.
Mexico City May 22 The chamber of deputies approved General Alvaro Obregon's bill to reduce deputies in three years after a lively debate in which Laborites tried to block the measure.
Meteorologist Albert Ashh enberger predicts sun and calm conditions for tomorrow as last night’s cloud cover clears with a north wind. The forecast notes minimal rain after a trace of 0.37 inches fell overnight.
The Bay Queen will be chartered by the Alabama docks commission for June 25 to ferry visitors from the municipal docks to view the new state docks from the river. The health board ruled the proposed cemetery as a sanitary matter for G A Leftwich and associates near Toulminville. The petition now rests with the county board of revenue and road commissioners for final action at its next meeting. The city commission first heard the petition 30 days ago and the city attorney said the site lies within police but beyond political jurisdiction.
D A Skinner general secretary of the U S Chamber of Commerce will visit Mobile for a day of development talks. Officials and committee chairs will discuss city growth and Skinner will address the Kiwanis Club at 1 PM on national topics including taxes and transportation.
Pelham Durant was chosen chair man of the Mobile Chamber of Commerce retail committee at a meeting of local retailers. Barton Greer was elected vice chair man. An informal discussion covered activities for the year with no definite program set until after a conference with officials.
Fined 250 dollars and 90 days in jail plus costs after conviction for operating a car while intoxicated. His vehicle collided with another driven by Alphonse Latoff at Government Street and Washington Avenue. both cars damaged. Reckless driving charges against Ludlow and Britton were dismissed. J Crawford, arrested on drunk driving, was fined 101 dollars and 50 days.
Mrs. Cornelia Cosgrove, formerly married to Thomas A. Cosgrove, who shot herself after wounding her former husband on Saturday, shows significant improvement at City hospital. Doctors say she will recover from a self-inflicted left side wound, and the wounded husband is also on the road to recovery.
Advices from Tainan and Shauntung report that after a conference with national authorities, Japan agreed to return to the local Chinese police all prisoners and munitions seized during the recent troubles.

An inquest will be held tomorrow on the death of Alfred J. Cohen of New York widely known as Alan Dale a dramatic critic who died from a heart attack while traveling by train from Bristol to Birmingham. Cohen landed at Plymouth on Saturday during an annual visit to England and left for his native city of Birmingham.
Geneva May 22 Sir Henry Thornton president of Canadian National Railways will serve on the League of Nations railway committee. Major General Raymond De Candolle, former manager of the Great Southern Railways of Buenos Aires, also accepts invitation to serve.
Republican Senator Steiner of Oregon chairs the committee returning with Bratton of New Mexico. Trips will occur before the Republican national convention in Kansas City. In Ohio the panel will probe district and county committee expenditures and in Indiana review Allen county spending linked to Senator Watson’s campaign against Hoover.
Kraft Phenix Cheese Co has gained control of Southern Dairies Inc which recently bought the Good Humor Ice Cream plant in Mobile. P C Moore local manager said he had not been informed and could not say the impact on Mobile plant. Associated Press reports a diversification program planned in the south with no merger contemplated.
Chicago council transportation committee approved a subway construction bill and sent it to the current Springfield legislature special session for action.
A. H. Carmichael of Tuscumbia led the ticket for delegate from the state at large to the Democratic national convention and every delegate elected is committed against Al Smith's nomination, per an official canvass of May 8 Democratic primary returns. Associate delegates Ayers, Burr, and Faulk also won clear majorities. Gunter and Henderson followed, with a low turnout noted. The highest vote was 173,969 for associate justice J Lucien D. Gardner.
Doullut and Ewin awarded a contract to build a concrete drive from the south end of the property to the piers skirting the west end of the piers. Major General W. chaired the docks board which estimates the cost around 100000 dollars. First concrete to be placed Wednesday with completion in time for the dedication of the new terminals as part of state improvements.
Tariffs in a southwestern rate case have been published and will take effect July 8. The new mileage based rates apply to points in the southeast and southwest.
