Henry Sherman, 19, a farm hand, confessed to killing Roger Pochon and his wife and mother and injuring a six month old baby after claiming a desire to do something terrible. He said his attentions to Nellie Pochon were rejected and that a spell of impulse drove the slayings.
Joan Reigh Count captures the 54th Kentucky Derby as Misstep places second and Toro third. About 80,000 spectators braved heavy rain across the drenched Churchill Downs course, with pools of water on the track and a delayed post time of 5:09 to 5:10 p.m.

Mrs Cornelia Cosgrove fired five shots at her ex husband Thomas A Cosgrove in a highway confrontation near the city this morning. Cosgrove was wounded and drove to Crichton, where he collapsed. Cosgrove later described the encounter while Mrs Cosgrove admitted the shooting. The couple had separated after 25 years of marriage.
John A. Hurt former Mobile county school commissioner faces circuit court next Monday on forgery and embezzlement charges in two bills from the October grand jury. He is free on 1000 bond as the docket shows continued hearings due to his illness. Separate trials are set for other local offenses including Phillips on Talapoosa, larcenies, burglaries, and auto crimes as the week unfolds.

A Tampico dispatch reports the body of Wilson, superintendent of the Union Oil Co., recovered beside an overturned automobile. his money and valuables were missing. A second note from Washington says the Senate adopted no resolution on force of messages and dismissals since July 1, 1919.
J. C. Davis, 36, claimed Houston origin but lived in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. He received one year at hard labor for forgery after Hartman of New York testified that Davis stole a traveling bag worth 150 dollars and forged several checks. Davis passed forged sums of 33.50 and 27.50 at local shops and attempted a 45 dollar pass. Police arrested him at the L and N station with officers Crivalleri and Rabby assisting in the search.
Two major real estate transactions were recorded in probate court. May Wilson McBee and husband John H. McBee sold to Wimble don Park Land Company a tract at 8 Hill for 54,000 with partial cash paid. The property is the east half of the southwest quarter of section 23 township 4 south range 2 west. The Peoples Bank through Cc E Thomas sold to William D. Martin the Denton Live Stock Company property on Conception Street Road in Prichard adjoining the abbateir. Base price 13,000 cash.

Bags varied from weathered to nearly new as the auction proceeded with no openings. A bag with a drowned owner sparked whispers before sale, and most items went for small sums.
Local police and sheriffs across several Louisiana parishes lined highways leaving New Orleans to locate an automobile used by two bandits who robbed a suburban Canal Bank and Trust Co branch of 10 000 dollars in currency. They menaced four employees with automatics and fled in a likely stolen car.

Clem Williams, 24, described as a negro, was caught early this morning trying to burglarize the Demetropoulous dairy dwelling on Hall's Mill road eight miles west of the city. He was found under a child's bed and held by Deputy Sheriffs Gewin and Barber until arrest. Williams is charged with burglary and held on $1000 bail.
Mack Cates fetched with a federal warrant charging possession of liquor for sale. Clarence Fosk and Lemon Gamble were served with government warrants on law violations. Twelve year old Charles Thomas was arrested by deputies for post office incident in Bay Minette and Silver Hill, Alabama.
Washington May 19 Xenophen Hicks of Tennessee was nominated by President Coolidge to be a federal judge for the sixth United States circuit court. John H. Cotteral of Oklahoma was named for the vacancy on the eighth circuit caused by the death of Judge W H Sanborn.
The U S court docket lists forty six main cases for trial in the first week of June with many others slated for hearing in the following week. The session opens June 4 and runs about two weeks, including carryover matters from the last term due to the Donoghue conspiracy case.
H M Morris received 150 dollars and 50 days hard labor plus 50 dollars costs for four counts of driving while intoxicated and 50 days for violating the prohibition law. G Griswold was fined 25 dollars and 25 days, both in costs. Jackson Morris, a Negro, was fined and costs or 50 days for possession of liquor. Officers Fisher and Stout arrested them on Old Government street.
Washington May 10 conferees held out hope for an early adjustment of differences between the senate and house on Muscle Shoals. The first meeting was general in scope but aimed at scheduling an additional session Sunday for concrete progress.
