Buenos Aires papers say Argentina government has information that the sailing ship Oriana has been sunk by a German submarine. The reports claim the incident is graver than the Monte Protegido sinking and provoke calls for stern action as demonstrations against Germany erupt in the capital.
Democratic Leader Kitchin urged quick passage of the 1.8 billion revenue bill as war costs for the current and next fiscal year were projected to reach five billion. He argued wartime payers at home should fund the bills, saying the wealthy must share the burden and that patriotism requires action despite protests from business leaders.
Responding to an appeal from Mr J Bush president of the Mobile Rotary Club pledged support to back a $50,000 bank loan to farmers. Rotarians raised 3250 toward the guarantee and Jacob Reiss agreed to chair the finance committee after a planning session with club members.
John J. Cooney, convicted Thursday in the circuit court of violating the prohibition law, was fined 50 dollars and costs and ordered to hard labor. The twenty member crew of the wooden freighter John Plank neton were rescued following a collision with a Grand Trunk ferry in the Detroit River. The freighter sank in 32 feet of water after the impact.

Abba Temple Mobile Shriners announce an elaborate street parade at 6 o'clock this evening. It will start at the Scottish Rite Cathedral on St Francis Street and proceed along Jackson to Government to Royal to St Josephs to Dauphin to Joachim to J Francis and finish at the Cathedral. The parade will be two blocks or more long led by the First Alabama Infantry Band and the Abba Temple corps with twenty two novices prominently featured for easy identification.
