A State Harbor Committee call meeting to authorize a comprehensive survey of the port and waterways. An engineer will map harbor needs, estimate costs, and outline a waterborne traffic plan to present to the next legislature for possible funding or credit.
May 9 report notes a conspiracy to induce mutiny among British sailors and demobilize. Searches on premises yielded documents. four stations in France and several in Britain are named. Towers for a government wireless station are being erected atop the Howse after storm damage on July 5 1916. The Marconi system directs communications and the towers will stand about 40 feet high.

A grand jury is due to report on the February 21 explosion at Mobile Electric Company boilers that killed five. The panel, in session two weeks, reviewed all coroner's inquest testimony and will also assess city and county jails, the poorhouse, and numerous public school buildings. County Solicitor B B Chamberlain said jurors have been busy since convening April 28.

Ward Thomas arrived in Mobile on the steamer Herman Winter from Central America and was deported Friday after appealing to Washington officials. Mobile officials upheld the decision. Seibert Griffith and Cecil Powell, stowaways from Teja Honduras aboard the steamer Maple on April 27, were also deported. Deebadie will be sent to New Orleans for deportation.
