Washington May 8 federal officials announce a rigid probe into the steamer Antinonac and other ships of the Trans Atlantic Company. They are said to have carried support to German submarines in the war zone, a claim admitted by the Navy Department today.
From San Juan Puerto Rico May 5 Associated Press report says German submarines operated in the Atlantic and were supplied by ships flying the U S flag. Manitowoc Muskegon and Jasee tied to this, docking at St Thomas and Buenos Aires to “await orders.” Crews claim cargoes included coal and fuel with hidden provisions for U boats.
Fire Monday damaged a frame dwelling on Old Shell Road due to a defective grate. The home, owned by Mrs. F M Martin, is occupied by Mrs. Joiner. No injuries reported.

Names include Malone Hendricks Ousley Keoughan George Scollick Lowry Goodman Davis Mims Brown Kelly Blair Smith Gibson Byrd Preasley Little Wilson Clarke Cottingham Cottingham Swann and others from multiple Alabama Mississippi towns.
Prohibition cases against Ben Gold berger Willie Duff and Frank Moore were nolle pressed in circuit court before Judge N R Leigh. City Attorney R H Smith made the motion. Other cases including Mrs Corinne Holt and John Ladis were passed or removed from the call. W N Blalack remains on trial for violation of the prohibition law. All appeals were from the recorder's court.
Judge William W. Brandon of Tuscaloosa County and former adjutant general of the state national guard will speak to the officers and men of the First Alabama Infantry at 4 o clock Tuesday in front of headquarters at the Gulf Coast Fair Grounds. The public is invited.

Yana was arrested May 1 at the Bienville Hotel on a dangerous and suspicious charge, discharged in court the prior Thursday after presenting his passport. He left with a discharge letter to New Orleans police chief.
The First Alabama Infantry Regiment Band will perform in Bienville Square Wednesday night replacing Thursday. Lieutenant Roy Alb announced the change yesterday morning. Earlier the band joined a noon flag raising at the Alabama Dry Dock and Shipbuilding Company plant on Pinto Island where a giant American flag was raised with ceremonies and patriotic tunes.
Boys from Leinkauf and Russell schools will receive free swimming instruction at the YMCA pool this afternoon under Prof. E. W. Conway physical director. The program is run by the association in cooperation with the schools to teach all students to swim.
Hendersons Pardons and Paroles records show sixty six murder cases, thirty seven manslaughter pardons, and eighty five releases for prohibition violations. The board recommended the release of seventy one murderers and those with manslaughter offenses.
The charge of violating the prohibition law against a local agent of Southern Express Co was dropped. The court noted the area court decision was not fully understood by officials at seizure time. Police destroyed 38 packages of liquor shipped in half pint bottles, valued at about $1500, after notices by the court and police chiefs.

The Weather Bureau notes moderating north to northwest winds, temperatures near 50 to 68, and slight regional temperature drops 10 to 20 degrees below normal.
