Six I W W seamen jailed for thirty days refuse food in the county jail amid a vagrancy case tied to an I W W sign removal at 1212 St Francie street. Leader Bishop says they are falsely imprisoned. jailor reports regular meals offered.
Requisition papers for B. R. Thomas, wanted in Meridian Mississippi on embezzlement charges, were received by Sheriff Paul Cazalas from Governor Lee Russell. Thomas remains jailed on a county embezzlement count, with a $500 bond. failure to post bond could send him to Meridian. Browning, linked to two prohibition violations and an alias writ, was to be moved to Mobile after missing court. deputy Ladnier transported him to county jail.
Deputy Sheriff J L Stringfellow reported destroying two copper stills in the county yesterday afternoon. One at a swamp on Lott road post 14 with eight barrels of mash and copper worm and pipe. another 60 gallon still with beer and operation paraphernalia on Big Creek near Earlville road.
James Cramer was arrested over state game and fish laws and paid $96.05 into the circuit court today. He was convicted of using a net to catch fish not having wild game in his possession.
New York May 4 unsettled sentiment at the opening of today's stock market with irregular price moves. Stewart Warner fell to 41 4, National Lead dropped to new low for the year, Consolidated Gas slid on dollar gas bill dispatches, while American Can rose 11 2. Strong spots included Dupont and Timken Roller Bearing. Foreign exchanges opened irregular with sterling down to 4.6259 and French francs up to 6.69 cents.
May 4 reports show steady opens with prices in New Orleans at May 26.05 July 25.50 October 23.33 December 2.93 January 22.80 and New York futures quoted at 27.05 for May, with July October 238, December 23.35, January 92.8.
Following a 28 to 9 vote by Springhill area property owners to join the city limits the Davis site now enters board consideration. The planned meeting next Wednesday is expected to yield definite action. A Saturday protest is planned at the county building with county and league of women voters attending to oppose the Davis site and push for a central location such as Carlin’s.
A varnish manufacturing plant will be set up soon by Mobile Paint Manufacturing Co. at Conception and Maryland streets with a $50,000 charter. W. A. Benson will lead as president and treasurer, with A. Benson as vice president and plant head, H. T. Scott as superintendent, and E. V. Flinn as assistant secretary.
V. A. Coates of 3023 State Street, a hosiery salesman, was fined $10 by the recorder for charges of disorderly conduct after slapping Mrs. Lela Atkins of 7 North Cedar Street when she refused to buy hose. He admitted using abusive language but denied striking her.
The Mobile fire department will be fully motorized by July 1 under a plan to replace horse drawn gear with seven motor apparatus from American LaFrance of Elmira New York. Delivery begins June 1 with two pumpers, June 10 two more, June 20 a pumper and hose cart, and the remaining unit soon after. Horses will be sold and horse teams shipped to the maker. City Commissioner H T Hartwell will travel to Elmira to inspect the units under construction.
The United Fruit Company docks at Puerto Castilla Honduras were destroyed by fire a few days ago. Losses run into several hundred thousand dollars. Loading machinery was damaged but cargoes remain in the port. The docks were a major Central American facility and terminus for a railroad serving inland banana plantations.
Eight prisoners were brought to Mobile from Washington County and arraigned before United States Commissioner J I Burgett. They were bound over to the federal grand jury. White defendants John Wood Clarke Carpenter Sol Crane John Gunn Willis Forbes Matthew Forbes and Chaney Collins with Alex Collins faced the court. pleas to be entered and bonds set or awaited grand jury action.
G. R. Malone was fined $10 and costs of 50 days hard labor and three months more hard labor by the recorder for violating the prohibition law as a second conviction. Police testified they found Malone with three half pints of white whiskey in an automobile parked on Water Street near Government. Malone said the liquor was for own use and he appealed the case. bond was fixed at $500.
The wage and title dispute between the Order of Railroad Telegraphers and the Illinois Central has been settled with a one year contract signed. The dispute stemmed from a December decision by the railroad labor board affecting telegraphers. Terms were not disclosed.
New York May 4. The appellate division of the supreme court ordered the divorce case between Geraldine Farrar and Lou Telegen retried before a jury. The ruling aims to allow Stella Are, a co respondent named by Farrar, to clear her name in public.
Anna M. Humphrey the three year old filly owned by J. Cal Milam will not start in the Preakness at Baltimore. The filly won the Ashland Stakes in Lexington last Saturday.

He will return Monday for canned goods and furniture charge discussions. Proposals include higher Pittsburgh and Youngstown to Mississippi valley rates and lower intermediate point rates. Birmingham to Mobile New Orleans and Pensacola would rise, with Birmingham to Mobile set at 29 cents and New Orleans at 32 cents.
Samuel M. Felton of the Western Railways committee on public relations accused Senator Brockhart and allies of pushing radical railway legislation to force national ownership. The remarks were prepared for delivery before the chamber of commerce in Dodge, Iowa, on May 4.
In Idabel Oklahoma on May 4 authorities announced Jack Pope and Red Harvey confessed to involvement in the Hansell family killings near Howarth on April 26. John Pope, estranged husband of Mrs. Pope, is accused of planning the crime to gain property and insurance. Three shotguns tied to the murders were found near Hansell’s home.

Paris May 4 Premier Poincare orders a protest to Washington against the U S ruling barring foreign ships from American ports. Le Matin says the premier calls the decision contrary to international law and warns it could set a precedent harming American ships.
In New York on May 4 futures at the New York Coffee and Sugar Exchange tumbled as 25 000 women gathered for a protest parade against refined sugar prices. The day opened with sharp declines and trading concerns as Cuban cost and freight offers appeared as low as 6 12 cents. The march from City Hall was led by Mrs Louise Reed Welamiller, deputy commissioner of public markets, backing the buyers strike movement.
