William T. Morris a 44 year old storekeeper was found slain at his Maple Street shop. T Wansley who kept night vigil with Morris reported the body and two suspects were questioned including a negro picked near the store. Police believe robbery motivated the murder.
The county seeks a new trial after a jury awarded R. M. Harold owner of a filling station $18,000 in damages. Harold had previously received $16,000 from a probate board, with the county appealing. James H. Webb, special county attorney, argues the $18,000 verdict is excessive and the hearing is set for next Saturday before Judge J. Blocker Thornton.
Partly cloudy Saturday night with cooler north portion. Sunday generally fair. In Mississippi expect generally fair conditions over Saturday night and Sunday with cooler temperatures in the north.
A Mobile youth Ben Stainbach 22 died in a crash on McGregor avenue near Old Shell road. In the same incident Miss Hortense White 19 and Miss Mary Sue McNeill 21 suffered severe injuries. Others injured include Allen Barnes 20. Victims were treated at Providence Infirmary with fears of internal injuries.
Mobile police investigated numerous petty thefts and burglaries on Saturday. The Mid-Way Pressing club at 101 North Joachim street reported three dresses and two suits stolen. A Westwood and Elizabeth streets resident complained of tool thefts. An auto stolen March 17 from J H Burke at 202 South Georgia avenue was recovered on Joachim street. Propritors of the Pioneer Auto company at St Anthony and Royal streets reported a Hudson coach missing from its parking spot.
Leon Schwarz will not run for a second term on Mobile’s city commission in September. He plans retirement after current term ends. Two candidates, R. J. Kearns and R. V. Taylor, are already in the race.
Dr H P Cole names new forestry committee asking a forestation push along highways. The Cham ber of Commerce panel aims to conserve timber, beautify roads, and promote tree planting and protection. Fourteen convicts moved to Kilby penitentiary by state agents after criminal court, including Bert Gunn and Marvin Gillis for burglary in Crichton. Oma Reed and Mrs Annie Willie sentenced on grand larceny charges. Additional names listed: James Sisson George Hambridge Charlie Hayes Willie Miller W B Johnson Dan Bell Frank Adams Norris Terrill Andrew Robbins Robert Smith Claiborne Braxton.

Supported by Brunswick Recording Company of Atlanta, the program features Mendelssohn items, Rubenstein, Brujo London Chamber Orchestra, Beethoven, Debussy, and a mass choir rehearsal at First Baptist Church at 7 30 PM.
The American National Bank filed in circuit court Saturday a suit to recover 4000 dollars on a fire loss claim for the Super Weave Rayon Fabrics Inc plant at Tacon station. The policy was held with Continental Insurance of New York. This is the bank’s second suit on the transferred policies covering the plant and goods.
A six year old Mobile girl, attacked Thursday by Charley Williams, remained in serious condition at a local infirmary Saturday after a brief improvement. Williams is identified as a Negro suspect in the case.

George Baker a New York financier aged 91 is seriously ill with pneumonia. The illness developed Thursday night and his condition has worsened, announced at his Madison Avenue home.

Reykjavik May 2 The steamship Odina carrying an airplane to search for missing British scientist Augustine Courtauld radioed that the expedition must be abandoned due to serious motor trouble. Two dog teams and a third plane prepared to head toward Angmagssalik failed to reach the scientist while repairs back at Reykjavik are arranged.
In Nashville the Bishop James M. Cannon Jr stated he made no claim to the college of bishops. By order of succession Bishop R. Hay of San Antonio was elevated to presidency. In Washington Chairman Nye rejected Bishop Cannon's request.
In Nashville a petition from Methodist laymen asks for the resignation of James Cannon Sr from his bishopric in the Methodist Church South. The document, publicized in Richmond last night, opposes Cannon becoming president of the college of bishops under rotation rules. Bishop John M. Moore confirmed receipt of the communications.
One man was killed and another wounded when left wing radicals tried to storm a national socialist meeting in Berlin. Eleven arrests followed. The communist Neue Zeitung in Munich was suspended for four weeks for inciting to high treason, marking ongoing May Day protests.

Commander Friedrich Christiansen of the German seaplane DO X announced from Rio de Oro that the route would continue tomorrow toward Bolama in Portuguese West Africa on the next stage to South America.
