The mayor was informed as crews responded to several light fires across multiple streets including 155 Rana Street 451 St Louis Street 56 North Monterey Street and 208 South Broad Street.
The tanker Avondale, recently sold by the United States Shipping Board to Amon J. Tracey of New York, entered the Alabama dry dock yesterday afternoon for repairs. The vessel had been laid up for over a year before the sale. The tanker Paiger, also on docks for about ten to twelve days, was released yesterday and set to sail today in ballast.
Two large hogfish were displayed on the waterfront this morning as the catch of Fred Johnson, captain of the Marie Kathryn. The fish were brought in from an extended gulf voyage and caught off Tampico, marking a rare local display after many years.

In Detmold Germany March 31 fifty members of the Reichswehr are believed drowned when a pontoon bridge across the Weser river broke during maneuvers. Hundreds of soldiers were swept into the water.

Norfolk, Va March 31 Mrs Simon Trosh died today as the third victim of a fire that killed two of her small daughters and destroyed the Trosh home and grocery. The blaze began when the mother attempted to start it with kerosene. The father remains in a hospital badly burned but is expected to recover.
Two men died when a motorcycle collided with a stalled wagon on the Andover turnpike in Danvers Massachusetts. The riders were identified as Wilfred Phillips and another man, both residents of the area, and the crash occurred March 31 with investigators on scene.
