A daylight operation by county and federal officers raided a swamp distillery on Eight Mile Creek near Spring Hill. They seized a 50 gallon whiskey still, 10 gallons of liquor, 500 gallons of mash and arrested two men identified as Lee Miller and F C Hughes. The raid was executed by Officers Hudson Graves and McDuffie and Deputies Hudoff and Nelson, with others noting the ongoing crackdown on illegal whiskey production.

R P McCowan a 50 year old insurance man died when his car plunged from a 50 foot embankment into Shades creek near Birmingham. Searchers dragged the shallow water after the tail light was seen burning. Coroner said indications point to a second occupant and McCowan’s body was recovered with a foot trapped by the brake.
