James Cardinal Gibbons archbishop of Baltimore and primate of the American Catholic Church died at the arch-Episcopal residence in Baltimore after a prolonged illness. He was 87 years old and had returned from Union Mills Maryland after a December illness. He suffered a relapse Palm Sunday afternoon and passed at 11 33 oclock. The cardinal had shown signs of improvement since January but grew weaker with age and fatigue from his duties.

Prominent Chicago physician Dr Alfred Hakanson died last night at 11 o clock in a local infirmary after a short illness while visiting Mobile relatives. He was a noted throat specialist. He leaves wife Evelyn Hakanson two brothers John Hakanson Mobile Peter Hakanson Nebraska and two sisters Mrs A W Linden Nebraska and Mrs J Terrell Indiana. The body was sent to Chicago for burial.
