In Yonkrs New York on March 23 Barney Williams died after winning a bet he could drink a pint of whiskey without stopping. Harold Powers a store keeper and Mrs Williams were held as material witnesses in the inquiry into Williams death.
The self propelled barge Tuscaloosa returned to the Mississippi Warrior service with 908 tons of freight in New Orleans and Mississippi river ports. It carried 608 tons and towed a 300 ton barge, boosting weekly shipments to Mobile and increasing automobile traffic on its voyages. The vessel, reconstructed at about $30000, is scheduled to sail today for New Orleans with 282 tons of steel and 5 tons of general merchandise.
Preparations for a major campaign launch in Mobile for the American Legion endowment fund with a mass meeting at the Battle House auditorium. The event, led by Joseph H. Lyons, features Congressman Lister Hill as main speaker and supports orphans and disabled soldiers.

Witnesses said the fire truck siren rang continuously. Waltman said he did not hear it. The fire truck sustained damage. Peter Coleman and John White were each fined 15 dollars or 15 days for speeding.
The Fox News Company will photograph cabbage marketing scenes in Mobile including the Warley farm near Theodore, said to be the world’s largest cabbage farm. Filming is set for April 3 and 4 with two or three attractive locals to appear as cabbage workers, weather permitting.
Columbus advertising club members plan a stop in Mo a route to the Ad Clubs of the World convention in Houston set for May. A chamber of commerce official says the visit could draw visitors who would stay from two to three hours and enjoy the city’s sights, if the stop is arranged.

Deputies search for two highwaymen who held up J. Baily 20 of Cottage Hill on a road near the Mobile County Tuberculosis Hospital and escaped after taking 50 cents. Louw Bailey 18, brother of the victim, hid in bushes to avoid robbery. Victims could not identify the robbers.
Local Red Cross chapter appeals for funds and clothing to aid tornado victims in Illinois and Indiana. Contributions can be sent to the chapter office at the federal building.
Benjamin B. Cox, the well known bailiff of the federal district court and United States commissioner, is in serious condition after a stroke. He remains at home on Chamberlain Avenue under medical care.

The city commission will review an ordinance requiring traffic on Dauphin street to move east and mandating a full stop at Government Conti Day and St Francis streets. Mayor Hartwell says the law will become effective unless strong objections arise.
George Bradford a Gulf Works bookkeeper with 4 percent employment is missing from his Mobile home. Police report a nationwide search led by Chief Warren F. Burch. Bradford left Mobile around February 27 bound for Washington to file a perpetual motion patent, checked into a Baltimore hotel February 28 under Birmingham Alabama, then disappeared. his wife and two children live in Oakdale.
The city commission will open bids on April 21 for two central fire stations and two smaller stations. One central station to cost 175000 will be at Church and Water streets, another at the triangle of Scott St Francis Springhill and Wilkinson. One small station to be rebuilt on Joachim Street near Beauregard Lipscomb and the other at the southern riverfront area.
R. W. Manning, special agent of the state commission, says the state will immediately begin litigation to take over lands with delinquent taxes in Mobile. If lands are rentable the state will collect rent. Several property owners have not redeemed their lands.
