Flood conditions along Alabama rivers improved Wednesday as the Alabama rose crest passed Montgomery and fell elsewhere. The Tombigbee continued rising with Demopolis at 50.4 feet 11.4 feet above flood stage, while Mobile anticipated strong currents as flood waters moved toward the coast and officials prepared damage assessments.
A United States Labor Department report shows moderate unemployment in the South with balanced labor supply and demand in Birmingham Memphis Wilmington Columbia and Aston. Pensacola and Tampa report shortages of common labor and surpluses in clerical and mechanical building trades. Savannah has shipyard worker surplus and helper shortages. Nashville shows 1500 surplus and Memphis 600 fewer common farm laborers with white labor surplus. Richmond reports 1500 surplus.
City Engineer Kt Smith approves twenty building permits for Mobile Shipbuilding Company workers. Total cost $48,600 with 13 homes on Laurel Street, 3 on Houston, 2 on Monterey, and 2 on Hannan Avenue. Each home priced from $8,000 to $11,000. Sayner & Allen of Chicago serve as contractors. work to start immediately.
Louis Loebel of Mobile faced charges for failing to return a questionnaire on a warrant from Justice Department agent C C Outlaw. Commissioner Daniel Burgett held him under a temporary 250 dollar bond and ordered jail pending trial after his March 5 arrest by U S marshal deputies.

He says he is a better man today in France than at enlistment and mentions meeting Dre H J Krudop now a sergeant major in the U S Army.
Miss Annie Maxwell Jones of Mississippi College at Columbus and Miss Milton of the same institution were named as director and staff director of activities work in Mobile under the Playground and Recreational Association of America. They will arrive in Mobile tomorrow morning to begin their duties and implement the new program.
H. M. Livingston of 956 Florida Street was found seriously injured at the bottom of the elevator pit shortly after 5 this morning. He, a watchman, was conscious but unable to explain how the injuries occurred. Doctors reported scalp wounds, head bruises, and a bruised right leg. he was removed to a hospital for treatment.
The Fairhope Railway held its annual election appointing officers led by E. A. Knapp and B. B. Gazza. Silverhill, Stace, and other members were noted among the elected officials in the brief report.
