A New Orleans azalea party will arrive in Mobile late Friday afternoon to view the azaleas and stay through the weekend. The group, led by Lackland and promoted to popularize Mobile as a national azalea hub, will travel by automobile with two Mobile escorts and a small local delegation. They plan to reach Mobile tonight and return Sunday afternoon.

Detroit police officer Dayton A. Winegar engaged robbers in a high speed pursuit on St Aubin avenue. The departing suspects fled in a stolen car as the officer attempted to stop them. the clash ended when the officer was shot and fatally wounded.
