The seventy first congress adjourned after a tense session with a filibuster blocking activity. President Hoover signed last minute bills in the Capitol as the House approved a 5 million start for hospital construction and the Senate passed the hospital measure.
The forecast calls for frost and a low of 39 degrees Wednesday night with fair, warmer conditions Thursday. Alabama expects frost Monday night and partly cloudy Thursday. Mississippi shows fair, warmer conditions in the northwest with frost along the coast Wednesday night and partly cloudy Thursday. River levels on the Tombigbee and its branches will continue falling tonight with irregular changes at Selma. Albert Ashenberger, Meteorologist.

Mrs Myrtle A Bennett described the shooting of her husband John G Bennett during a bridge quarrel as accidental. She testified that after an argument over a business trip he slapped her hard and she went to fetch his gun from her mother’s room, then confronted a bridge player as the tragedy unfolded.

Delmar Cannon, a 19 year old bicycle repairman, was shot in the face and back and died after coming to the Barbee home to seek approval for his marriage to Maude Barbee. Jim T. Barbee, 44, is jailed on murder charges. Maude Barbee is his daughter. Cannon and Maude wed a week earlier in Macon. Barbee reportedly invited Cannon to lunch and opened fire.
Jurors for the Selma division federal court trial session were drawn Wednesday ahead of the term beginning March 16. The panel will serve for the duration of the session.
A joint resolution passed to authorize a legislative committee to investigate all school funds with no time limit. The effort, led by Senator Garrett Clarke, aims to shed light on the education department's equalization and trust funds and ensure fair distribution. Major funds include 3.25 million in total across educational trust and attendance funds and an equalization fund of 900000.
The Alabama legislature advanced tax relief measures with the House approving a companion bill 70 to 16. Senator Walker backed extending final ad valorem tax settlement to September 30 and paying half by April 1 with the rest by September, while a Beebe regulation bill moved to conference after House refusal to concur in amendments.
Grand jury charged Stather Christodoulus Henry Gans Reginald Higgins and Charles Peterson with receiving stolen property from Mobile grocery stores. Hearing postponed due to missing state witnesses. A 6 gallon drum still and six barrel quantities of beer mash were destroyed Tuesday afternoon on Hamilton creek in the western county by the sheriff's forces. The raiding party included Deputies Fred C. Hudoff Charles Boykin Jim Nelson and Hobson Hargett.
The Sossaman pilotage bill removes Mobile bay pilots from the state docks commission and sets up a separate regulatory body. It becomes law with Gov. Miller's approval at 1 am Wednesday but operative January 1 next year. The pilots will form a governor appointed commission and assume fees and duties previously handled by the docks body.
R. B. Cobb traffic manager of the Mobile Chamber of Commerce John W. White assistant to the general manager of the Alabama State Docks Commission and several railroad officials will leave Wednesday night for Atlanta to attend the Southern Traffic League meeting followed by the Southern Regional Shippers Advisory board. The league will review the Interstate Commerce Commission report on petroleum rates with Mobile’s interests, and discuss other rate questions.
Willie Williams was docked at police headquarters Wednesday morning on a petit larceny charge with John Repoll a wholesale bakery truck driver as complainant. Repoll says Williams stole a carton of cakes from his delivery truck. Williams was arrested at Commerce and St Anthony streets by Officers Blackman and Lott.
C R Smith of American Airways announced a one hour reduction in southbound air mail time to Mobile improving downtown deliveries. Northbound arrival at 2 30 p m also gains time. Schedules will shift mid summer to Montgomery via Mobile, shortening the line by 30 minutes with faster planes.
In Indianapolis on March 4 a murder trial revealed moonlight dates with Harold H. Schroeder of Mobile Alabama. Witness Jean Carson testified about dates with Schroeder and a burned car found on a lonely road near here. Other evidence included a knife, a coat, a skull and an oil fire claim.

Mobile representative W C Taylor introduces a bill to double the Mobile police and fire pension and relief fund funded by higher recorder court costs. Minimum benefits would rise from 50 to 100 dollars and maximum from 75 to 190 dollars with court costs increasing on fines.
Commissioner Hartwell said he will confer with Solicitor Bart B. Chamberlain before presenting a plan for Motile to cover expenses of state witnesses summoned from a distance for the Clyde Beach trial. Beach is charged with killing Motorcycle Policeman W. F. Murphy.
Rates on bananas from Mobile and New Orleans to Kansas and Nebraska points drop effective April 1. The notice also states the Interstate Commerce Commission has approved rates between Mobile New Orleans and Illinois river crossings.

Merrill faces Harrison narcotic act charges after heroin was reportedly found in his room. The crackdown has six arrests total as a federal grand jury probes the drug traffic.
William McMurray Dix of Mobile Alabama earned membership in the American Chemical Society for holding the highest scholastic standing in Washington and Lee University's chemistry department. He is the son of Mr and Mrs L D Dix of 65 South Ann Street and specializes in chemistry.
President Hoover signed the veterans hospital bill at the capitol as the $20,800,000 program was finally authorized by the House after conference on differing house and senate bills. The action followed Senate and House conferees failing to reconcile the two measures.
Dorsey Richardson was killed in Mobile Heights near Sprin Hill as Miller claimed self defense after being attacked at the home of Mia Nolph. Miller, charged with first degree murder, said he shot after being threatened with a knife. He was taken into custody after deputies arrested him in Crichton.
An AP dispatch from Washington reports President Hoover will receive an appropriation bill totaling 510000 for Marine hospital improvements. The plan includes a 100 bed wing, new quarters for medical staff, orderlies and attendants, and replacement of old garage and hospital supply buildings.
