Roland L Chute of Mobile aided the coroner in the investigation and helped secure evidence leading to the coroner's jury verdict charging the first mate and two crew members as accessories. The captain's body could not be moved due to conditions. Roland plans another trip to Key West to arrange burial.

In Ashville Tennessee four men were executed in the state penitentiary for the murder of taxicab driver George Lewis of Knoxville.
