Government contract advances with concrete foundations underway. J W Gilbert, architect, confirms 40 days until tank completion. Workmen and riveted steel tanks from Pennant operated by Sneed expand port terminal activity on the island.
Police raided a government building at 263 1 2 Dauphin street on a Wednesday night. Officers gained entry by a skylight after entering via a telephone pole and found gambling equipment and a cache of money. Docketed for July 11, the case lists P I Martin and others among those arrested.
A midweek ice squall damaged a barge near Biloxi injuring crew members. Divers worked to recover those stranded as rescue teams responded to the incident and assessed the wreckage near Government Point.
In Shreveport the case against Tom Meers and C. W. each fined 25 dollars after arrests for disorderly conduct at a disturbance on Dearborn Street. A white man had recently died in a related incident caused by a drunk disturbance involving a black woman, with officer Burden reporting minor injuries.

A telegram from Frank P. Thompson states Mooseheart is favored to host the 1922 Loyal Order of Moose convention but Mobile remains in the contest with strong support from Mobile and other cities. The message details a Wednesday session to pick the site amid a heated competition.
Washington June 30. A conference of about 50 new members discussed up work in Congress and participation in House activities. No action was taken. Representative Mondell Wyomin Republican leader urged calm, noting Congress had done all it could and that the session is long by past standards.

Washington reports indicate the peace resolution terminating hostilities with Germany and Austria-Hungary should pass the House today with the Senate likely to act promptly. Officials of the Mobile Company expect a large oil delivery in Mobile today to fuel water gas production. About sixty two tank cars are needed for the half million gallon supply. The oil will be used to water gas at the plant, reducing coal gas output. The Interstate Commerce Commission orders a rehearing of the Texas freight rate case after a Texas railroad commission petition. Houston chamber and harbor board oppose reopening, arguing that Houston and Galveston rivalry affects coastwise traffic and that Houston has invested millions in facilities and dredging.
Lieutenant Clement McMuhen flew a German Fokker machine at the Montgomery air intermediate depot and reached 20 500 feet, shattering the former record of 10 000 feet. The flight occurred Wednesday morning.
In Amite Louisiana on June 30 six men were convicted of murder in a single trial and face capital punishment for the killing of Dallas L. In Savannah on June 30 a U S Shipping Board ship crew threatened to walk out if a Black worker nicknamed Hoodoo, who had previously worked on several ships, was hired again. Hoodoo returned to Savannah and joined a vessel, prompting a strike that led to his firing.
In Hampton Virginia two large airships the D-4 and the D-2 were caught in a gale while over a naval bombing target and landed with difficulty. The D-4 touched Langley field at 10 PM after a harrowing ordeal while the D-2 was blown off course and settled at Princess Anne Maryland. Both observed the scene and carried seven passengers each.
Chicago June 30 After three years of experiment Professor William L Woodburn of Northwestern University announced he produced an ear of corn with red white and blue kernels. He stated he would soon perfect corn with solid color bars by crossing red and white with blue ears and grafting the three varieties.

The three masted schooner Celeste D in ballast from Pensacola to Havre was set afire off the Florida coast. Captain H Richards and crew abandoned ship and rowed 90 miles to New Smyrna after escaping in boats. The Bessie Dollar, a British steamer, reported the incident to units near Jacksonville.
