Minister Plunges to Death After Car Fire on Alabama Highway
The Rev. B. H. Cox, a Methodist minister in Summitt Alabama, died after leaping from a burning car and plunging from a 30 foot cliff on the highway between Albertville and Guntersville. Hansel Thomas a 17 year old youth was jailed in Gadsden Alabama charged with shooting Jim Gibbs a pipe bender while Gibbs ploughed in his field. Thomas surrendered saying Gibbs whipped him with a stick a week earlier and accused him of stealing five gallons of home brew. He admitted taking the cached brew stock but denied ownership by Gibbs. Thomas said Gibbs saw him remove the brew from a woods cache and that Gibbs had threatened to shoot him. Gibbs left a wife and five children.
