Ellis Morgan and six sons from near Oak Grove are summoned to a United States court on charges of interfering with a federal officer during a dispute over cattle. The arraignment was followed by a recess and a witness list.
Jesse Cooper, the second Creola youth convicted for a part in the Waverly Taylor killing, will not appeal his 30 year sentence. Cooper testified that Whit Marvin Smith shot the victim, while Smith claimed Cooper acted as slayer. Taylor’s decapitated body was found on Smith’s farm in a wooded Creola area.
Oliver Tidwell, a witness in the grand jury probe of the flogging of Jeff Calloway, is reported safe in concealed custody after a prior disappearance. Attorney General McCall declined details, saying Tidwell is where he should be amid threats to witnesses.
In Montgomery, July 22, the Alabama senate recalled and re referred two masking bills to the judiciary committee after a compromise. Senate leaders Williams and Ellis explained that a draft bill would be produced from both measures, with Williams’ felony ban on wearing masks and hoods under any circumstances and Ware’s low to wear masks while supervised. The move followed a parallel vote on a Williams substitute and a lengthy reconsideration process.
E Y Clarke former Ku Klux Klan official sues the Christian Index in Fulton County Superior Court seeking 100000 dollars. He says an editorial in the paper was false malicious and defamatory. The suit claims Clarke siphoned klan dues and the piece accused him of turning the movement into a money making endeavor with a religious flourish.
Walter Livingston, previously in jail for attempting to burg l arize Higgins market at Claiborne and Lipscomb, pleaded guilty to burglary in circuit court before Judge Joel W. Goldsby. The offense was the burglary of Kittle's seed store at Dauphin and Scott. Fred Parker, charged with manufacturing liquor and possession of an illicit still, received a continuance until July 30.
Mayor Harry T. Hartwell says a contract satisfactory to the reorganized Mobile Fair Association and the city commission will be signed soon. The fair plans to operate in the early fall with use of the grounds, if it avoids interfering with municipal developments, per Commissioner Cecil F. Bates.
M. J. McDermott of 54 South Franklin Street reports a lawn mower taken last night. Clifton Goff of Mount Vernon says his automobile was stolen from Springhill Avenue near Mobile Infirmary, the same car being stolen again within 30 days.
A Mobile Junior Chamber of Commerce meeting adopted a resolution urging all civic clubs to appoint members to a committee. The panel would cooperate with Woodmen of the World to promote Mobile as the potential site for the order’s national headquarters. The committee aims to inform the Woodmen executive council, not to recruit new members in Mobile, and not to affect the commerce campaign. Joe Baker, chamber president, will convene the group if clubs opt in.

Rev Fr M McNally S J Miami will be vice president replacing Rev Fr James Greeley S J who goes to New York as associate editor of America. Rev Fr R Macdonal S J New Orleans becomes philosophy professor succeeding Rev Fr Frederick Mc Donald S J who moves to Manresa House Louisiana. Rev Fr W Wilkinson S J Selma will come to Mobile to succeed.
The Mobile and Ohio railroad proposed cucumber rates for all stations on its line south of Meridian to New Orleans. The Gulf Mobile and Northern matched burlap bag rates from Mobile to Lyles Tennessee with the New Orleans rate.
Divers searched Wolf River near Memphis for Henry Teague 55 after he reportedly drowned last night stepping from his houseboat back porch into the water. Authorities combed the area for the missing man and to recover the body.
Crawford Park captured the inter playground swim meet with 39 points, ahead of Lyons Park and Galvez amid rough water that dampened performances. The Mobile event, first of its kind, will guide future water sports development and featured diverse events for boys and girls from multiple playgrounds.
Mobile and Baldwin County stock law supporters moved quickly to fund a state wide campaign. A Mobile committee planned to direct a representative to Montgomery to gauge legislative sentiment and counter opposition as farmers and business leaders organize across the southern counties.
Frank Oliver was convicted in recorder's court today of violating the prohibition law and fined 100 dollars or 90 days for possession. Others, including W. R. Sweeney and A V Nezich, were fined 101 and 50 dollars respectively with costs, for similar offenses. Angelo Kalblas was jailed for 17 half pints and Jess ie Adams, 57, was docketed for violation.
Jake Sandberg of Spring Hill reported his Ford stolen from Jackson Street near Stsrrands after 9 p.m. Sam Zimmern Jr of 1116 Government Street found his car missing after attending the fight returns at Jackson and Dauphin streets. Residents on 207 Dexter Avenue alerted police to a possum and a fat hen thief trapped in a rear yard where detectives found a fat possum in the garage.
Local forecast shows cloudy skies tonight and Saturday for Alabama with likely thundershowers. Winds will be light and variable as the system passes.
Attorney General Charlie C. McCall will personally prosecute seven Blount county defendants indicted for assault and battery and kidnapping in the Jeff Calloway flogging case. Trial begins August 1 with the state’s team including a solicitor and an assistant attorney general. Defendants named include Eugene Doss and the Clayton trio plus Peter Carlisle and Amos Covington.
The Little Theatre has chosen three of five planned plays for the season. Selected works are Dulcy by Connelly and Kaufman, Outward Bound by Sutton Vane, and You and I by Phillip Barry. The first performance is scheduled for October, with tentative casting complete.
Edwin Ranger, 23, charged with assault to murder Eli Collins in 1926 was docketed at the county jail today. He also faces a second charge of assault with intent to kill Ester Dossett. Peter Antoine, 43, a negro, docketed on a statutory charge with Rowena Antoine, his sister in law, a complainant. A seven year old child is a principal in the case.

The Mobile County board of registrars ended its session at 6 pm with nearly 1,000 new registrations recorded. A large number of registrations occurred this morning, marking a substantial increase in voter enrollment.
Five negro section hands of Louisville and Nashville Railroad were injured when a section car jumped the track just outside Missala station twenty eight miles out of Mobile. The gravely hurt man Zol and McDonald badly hurt. All injured reside near Kreele, Miss. They were taken to Mobile by train No. 6 and rushed to City hospital. J D Hartley foreman reported the car jumped the track without warning and escaped unharmed.
In dense fog last night the steamer Pacific Trader collided with the Northland off Golden Gate, damaging the Northland so severely her crew abandoned ship in a sinking condition. The Northland is owned by Atlas Steamship Company of San Francisco. the Pacific Trader is owned by Furness, Withy and Company of London. The Northland's crew were picked up before the Pacific Trader reported the presence of dynamite aboard.
Reports describe a fatal rehearsal of a Dempsey bout at Yankee Stadium. Thomas Celloucet and John Derogatis argued over the decisive blow to a friend listening to radio reports. Celloucet allegedly struck with a one two combination, knocking the other to the pavement and fracturing his skull. he died six hours later.
London July 22. The cabinet meets to consider the report of the two British delegates to the Geneva naval reduction conference. W. C. Bridgeman, first lord of the admiralty, arrived from Geneva and spent time with admiralty officials, Sir Chamberlain and imperial defense committee members who helped frame Britain’s Geneva plan and provide general instructions.

In Bucharest the body of King Ferdinand rests in Cotrocent Palace amid flowers from Queen Marie and royal daughters as thousands pay tribute. The procession followed from Sinaia where he died, with burial planned Sunday at Curtea de Arges. A private letter to Premier Bratianu and remarks about Carol’s claim sparked wide reaction.
Tempest in Angelus Temple over Sunday and Tuesday collections after Aimee Semple McPherson’s revival. Minnie Kennedy says a six to eight person group handled offerings without authority and two church burglaries are alleged. Kennedy seeks clarity while McPherson plans to return.

Inspired by wartime music programs, the project aims to revive group entertainment as a peaceful recreation.
