Volunteers in the western annexation area circulate four separate petitions seeking a municipal referendum to restore the territory to Mobile. The effort divides the area into four sections with independent vote plans, after delays caused by retyping records to avoid legal errors.
R Curzon Hoffman vice president of Southern Cities Public Service company arrived in Mobile with W W Winter manager and division chief to inspect Mobile Gas properties. Hoffman says the company aims to develop Mobile Gas, improve service, and keep the public satisfied. He will spend several days in Mobile before returning to Atlanta.
The case of J. D. McLeod arrested by Detectives Burden Arras Lawrence and Harrison was called in police court today and reset for Friday on a complaint by his wife. Mrs George K Losse reported a thief stole a lawn mower from her garage on 26 South Reed Avenue.

He was well known in Mobile and had been in charge of the offshore patrol of division eight based at Pascagoula before the shipout order to his former home Boston.

They are accused of possessing a small quantity of liquor. Dannie May Johnson listed as a negress was docketed dry Ghange when officers alleged she had 10 gallons of beer and one gallon of whiskey.
Solicitor Bart B. Chamberlain urges longer sentences for auto thieves. Gus Jackson, a Negro, is convicted of grand larceny and sentenced to five years in the penitentiary by Judge Alex T. Howard. The car valued at $700 was stolen in daylight and later burned near Plateau after being found at Jackson and St Francis streets. Will Koster, county traffic officer, arrested Jackson when tires from the car were found in his possession. Jackson is an escaped convict from Baton Rouge parish penitentiary where he served 12 years for grand larceny.
General C. P. Summerall chief of staff of the United States army will inspect Fort Morgan at the entrance of Mobile bay on July 24. He accepted an invitation to a banquet in Mobile July 23 hosted by the Chamber of Commerce. He will arrive in Mobile around 6 p.m. and later visit Gulfport and deliver an address in Mississippi. The coast guard cutter Pontchartrain will transport him.
An order directed Judge Alex T. Howard to hold court in Escambia county the week of July 22. Judge F. W. Hare, the regular Escambia judge, has been disqualified on the docket for specified reasons.
John Vincent pled guilty in inferior court to petit larceny and was sentenced by Acting Judge Touart to six months hard labor for stealing a cow valued at 34 dollars from Pat Mc Donough of Whistler. Fannie May Johnson was fined 100 dollars and costs for prohibition violations, and Bob Jenkins faced 50 dollars or 20 days with 90 days added.

William Fox and a companion were injured in a collision near Mineola New York. Fox's chauffeur Joseph Boyes was killed when the Fox car overturned. A second car carrying three women remained upright. Miss Mildred Kane of New York City was driver and her passengers were uninjured.
A Bucharest dispatch to Neue Freie Presse reports four workmen found dead after the new Regina Maria theatre under construction collapsed yesterday. Eleven workers were injured in the disaster.
In Littorio Italy on July 17 the American transatlantic aviators Yancey and Williams depart in a Pathfinder bound for Paris amid preparations and support from Italian and American crews.
Burk California July 17 Harold Bromley plans a Tacoma to Tokio flight in a special Lockheed monoplane with a 425 horsepower Wasp engine. He supervised fabrication and expects speeds of 150 to 160 mph covering nearly 5000 miles with mid ocean distance about 600 miles.
Senate finance committee heard more testimony opposing a house tariff provision that would tax Canadian wheat milled in bond for export to countries granting flour from American wheat preferential duties. John Pillsbury of Pillsbury Flour Mills argued Cuba would source flour from Canada, opposing milling in bond and stressing Canada flour is needed in Cuba. He noted no Canadian milled flour enters U.S. markets and Pillsbury planned Buffalo mills to support Canada exports.

In a hospital visit incident Mr and Mrs Winters left baby Mary Patricia Winters in a car on a street. The car was stolen but the loud crying attracted police who found the thieves abandoned the vehicle a few blocks away.

In Oxford July 1 a conference of British and Holyoke College students adopted a resolution calling for the elimination of submarines from naval forces. Miss Catherine F Snell of Holyoke College reported the action, noting the shift from a 15 year moratorium to a total ban. The conference also backed drastic limits on armaments through international agreement.
Fred J Mellini former Metropolitan Grand Opera singer receives five years probation in Los Angeles Superior Court for issuing a worthless check. Evidence shows he suffered a head injury in 1929 Chicago and has since faced mental health and criminal-encounter issues.
