In Eufaula Alabama last night Jack Hines 25 was killed instantly and an 18 year old girl companion was seriously injured four miles north of town after an automobile attack. The girl was dragged from the car and assaulted with blows injuring her arm possibly requiring amputation. Hospital attendants reported the arm severely mutilated. The girl walked three miles to reach help. County officers organized a citizens’ search party to scour the surrounding area.
Streams rose and a flash flood swept Gypsum Kansas early this morning as two creeks overflowed alarms sounded and residents escaped to safety. Water receded hours later and parts of Newton Kansas were inundated by near cloud burst. Damage to crops and farm property across the state was extensive with several railroad stretches washed out near Salina and Beancut wheat in the Vicin itchinson area expected to be heavy.
