Divers entering the battered U S submarine 8 51 reported about twelve bodies inside the ship. One body wedged behind engine room machinery, others in the torpedo room. If correct, 13 sailors' bodies were washed from the City of Now last September and likely never recovered.
Edward Meyer, a former Bayou la Batre merchant, faces federal charges of concealing assets in bankruptcy. The trial, expected to span most of the day, follows a series of bond forfeitures and court decisions. J. M. Stone of Moss Point Miss failed to appear in Mobile County Inferior Criminal Court over alleged unlicensed sale at Grand Bay Ala Judge Clark ordered bond forfeiture with an alias writ. State witnesses also failed to appear in Louis Long assault to murder case leading to attachments ordered by the state solicitor.
Local thunder showers expected in Alabama and Mississippi tonight or Friday. Moderate southwest and south winds accompany the unsettled conditions.
In a Birmingham memo dated July 6 1926 Leo F Eldridge Chairman Mobile County Democratic Executive Committee asserts a sub committee may nominate election officers for Mobile county voting places. R B Evins responds confirming delegate authority and duty to follow the law. Eldridge vows to ensure lawful conduct and appoint watchers to protect candidates at polls.
Weather bureau reports mobile visits tonight and Friday with occasional thunder showers. Rain will have little effect on temperatures, remaining about the same.
G T Rhodes of Hattiesburg was arrested on Terrill Ave near Cedar Point on charges of failing to stop after an accident. Officer Ollie Lartigue testified Rhodes caused a crash with L Obert a ship worker damaging the Obert car. Rhodes was fined 25 dollars and costs for failing to stop. The other two defendants were acquitted for lack of evidence.
County board of revenue and road commissioners will meet next Monday to vote on reducing city voting places from 43 to 23 under Commissioner A. G. Ward's redistricting proposal. County Attorney Gordon will present his opinion then.
Miss Nancy Austin reported to the executive committee of the women's division of the Chamber of Commerce that Mobile and Birmingham are the only Alabama cities with social work exchanges. The division sponsors Mobile's exchange and plans for other women’s Chamber activities were reviewed. In Maresville, Louisiana, John Carrier and his son Willard died after drinking coffee laced with poison while a farmer and his 21 year old son worked nearby.
A joint force of county state and federal officers seized a Ford carrying 85 gallons of illegal liquor on Cedar Point road near Fowl River Bridge. Driver Ed Thompson was arrested for violating the prohibition law, the car confiscated. State Officer Rufus Cannon Deputy Sheriffs Lee and Stringfellow and Federal Officer Hughes participated. A second raid destroyed a 150 gallon still with 12 barrels of beer mash on Mon Louis Island. Several individuals, including Martha Thompson and Francisco Gonzales, faced fines for violations.
Mrs. Myrtle McClendon King, 40, jailed in Marshall County Alabama, protests innocence in the 1920 murder of her first husband John Franklin McClendon. Four Black men have already received life terms. two died in convict mine incidents. Senator John A. Lusk seeks an immediate hearing and possible release.
S H Peck president of the O16 Spanish Trail Association and city officials from Mobile attended the dedication of the Escambia Santa Rosa bridge in Florida. Governor John W Martin cut the silver cord at 11 am as traffic was opened. Messages of congratulations went to Pensacola Mayor Bayliss from Mobile leaders and John T Cochrane praised the project and predicted traffic by December 21.

Mrs. C. H. Ross reports a sneak thief entered her home on 118 North Lafayette Street yesterday afternoon and stole a valuable cut glass salad bowl. An attempted burglary at Dixie Parts Company on 364 North Royal Street last night ended without loss as thieves fled.
Mobile delegates to the state American Legion convention in Selma returned home last night by train and car. The group highlighted Mobile as the port of embarkation for Alabama delegates to Paris next year and urged immediate use of the remaining five million dollar state port bonds to develop Mobile port.
The Mobile Chamber of Commerce traffic department asked for suspension of a proposed cancellation of wool rates from Mobile to eastern points. The railroad cited minimal movement to justify the tariff cancellation, noting Mobile ships 30 to 0 carloads of wool annually.
