A mobile weather report notes a sharp mercury drop to near freezing early Thursday with a minimum around 36 degrees. Light frost is expected Thursday night as north winds ease and temperatures rise slightly later in the day.
A severe storm and cold wave hammered northern Florida and adjacent areas. A tornado touched down in two north Florida counties killing a woman and damaging homes. Snow reached near nine inches in Bristow and Atlanta reported three and a half inches ending an 18 year record. Mariners and fishermen faced rough seas. three schooner crews missing after drifting from the Mississippi coast. Property loss in Marion and Flagler counties pegged at around $50,000 as turpentine settlements and buildings were wrecked.
A Gulf driven front pushed coastal winds and snow into northern Mississippi and southern coastal areas. The storm caused rough seas, capsizing small boats near Pass Mary and suspected drownings of three Black fishermen.
The Weather Bureau issued a storm warning covering the coast from Sandy Hook to Eastport Maine and extending to the Virginia Capes. A disturbance near Cape Hatteras is moving northeastward bringing strong northeast winds and gales with a shift to the north and northwest.

An explosion destroyed a recently completed oil plant on the West Coast after a Felix No. 1 well began producing around 1700 barrels daily and 50 million cubic feet of gas. Field workers said gas and oil surged through pipes with great pressure prior to the blast, possibly sparked by gravel striking a pipe. Supply lines were shut immediately.
Heavy snow falls halt the Dillard Georgia to Highlands North Carolina mail route. Mules carry mail as 12 to 15 inches of snow blanket the region stalling the daily truck.
