The Stavangeren arrived from Frontera loaded with bananas after Tabasco’s rebel advance and port battles. A separate accident on Spring Hill avenue left George Sheffield with a broken leg, as a Ford bid issue and Shoals debate stoked local government controversy.
At Cumberland Hill Manville a two family cottage exploded after a gas leak. Six members of the Conway family, including Michael and Emmett Conway and their mother and sister, perished or were severely injured. Neighbors found bodies in the ruins and authorities believe several lives were lost to asphyxiation or fire. Local medic Marshall viewed the scene and deemed the deaths likely due to the blast and gas.
Atlanta doctors examined Robert Butcher a College Park youth who swallowed a key. They planned endoscopy to remove the object but found no immediate danger and sent him home with instructions to return for follow up.

J C Jehay aged 23 engine room crew member of the steamer Maiden Creek in port suffered a painful injury to his left eye early this morning when a water glass exploded on a boiler. A glass particle penetrated the eye and he was moved to the United States Marine Hospital for surge ry care. Surgeons could not yet determine if sight will be saved.
Permanent officers for the winter visitors et-together association will be elected in the Chamber of Commerce directors' room at 3:30 P M. Captain Leon Schwarz announced. The group includes Mobile winter visitors and visitors from Fairhope Spring Hill Grand Bay and nearby resorts with about 350 people. Temporary club rooms and conveniences are provided in the Chamber of Commerce building.
Deputies Bernstein and Mills seized thirty gallons of white whiskey in ten gallon kegs at a Plateau house. Horace Long, 18, was jailed on prohibition violations. Officers also took 14 half pints, plus many empty bottles. Blackman and Burch arrested Ebert Howard for driving without lights and A. P. Price for speeding.
Ben Trainor aged 49 collapsed on Davis avenue near Pearl street at 7 39 am while walking to a physician’s office. Dr F Hale county coroner said death was due to heart trouble and Trainor was stricken on the spot.
The Alabama Board of Agriculture met at the Battle House with about 160 county farmers in attendance. J. Lloyd Abbot presided as Mobile County Farms Bureau president, and J. M. Moore spoke on the proposed national board of arbitration for perishables to apportion losses on damaged car shipments.
An ordinance restricting jitneys in Mobile takes effect at midnight forcing suburban to Mobile routes to cease operations. The Bon-Air and Arlington busses faced curtailment with Arlington already off streets since January 1. Louis Imsand Sr of 259 Springhill Avenue was hurt when the automobile he was driving overturned on Cottage Hill Road Sunday afternoon. He sustained a painful left side injury and possible ankle fracture pending X ray. He was also injured in the shoulders.
Major Earl North, a United States engineer, arrives in Mobile from Tuscaloosa where he conducted tests of the new towboat J. B. Battle on the Warrior River. Tests were led by Major North and Colonel G. My Woetfman, Gulf division engineer.
St. Joseph Missouri city editor Ross G. Wheaton Jr aged 21 died in a hospital today after a surgical operation. He had worked for several years on newspapers in Norfolk Virginia before his tenure at the St. Joseph Gazette.
President Coolidge focused on the Northwestern credit crisis with the War Finance Corporation's Meyer returning from the Northwest to report and discuss federal aid to recapitalize banks. He also planned talks with Gray Silver of the American Farm Bureau and lawmakers Leavitt and French along with Wheat Growers’ representatives.
