Recorder D H Edington announced twenty day sentences for vagrancy at the recorder's court. Unemployed men loitering around pool halls and streets must prove employment or face the docket on vagrancy charges. Both white and black arrestees were sent to the roads if they failed to show good character.
Republican circles anticipate the Mobile based Southern District of Alabama's district attorney appointment this week. Candidates include J O Middleton AuBrey Boyles and James W Sloan with factions citing endorsements from regulars Harding forces and northern Republicans.ederal court context and prior incumbent Alex Pitts from Selma is noted.
Reports from the mid Atlantic say the Norwegian freighter Mod sank on its maiden voyage after leaving New York January 18 bound for Christiania. All 84 crew reportedly saved aboard the Melmorehead, a British freighter from Belfast bound for St Johns.

The police chief said Dickson supplied Mitchell at Riverside Cafe with whiskey to sell. Proceedings postponed to January 26 for further prosecution.
Miss Mercer, a Mobile sculptor linked to Italian master Giuseppe Moretti, will speak at the Mobile Women's Club luncheon. Her works Pied Piper and The Golfer have drawn praise. she visits Mobile with her mother and club members are asked to notify the secretary by Tuesday morning.
L. C. Kuykendall of Whistler caused a stir in the lower Government street area when he woke residents of a boarding house and claimed to be a Stein clothes officer. Testimony said he flashed a badge in a cafe before launching his raid, boasting he never fails to meet a big man. The recorder fined him $10 or ten days.

Police Officer Qualis testified Harris a Black man previously convicted for whiskey selling attacked him Sunday afternoon when arrested on a liquor violation. Harris allegedly struck with a wooden door bar at Congress and Warren Streets. officer used a nightstick to subdue him as Harris appeared with bandaged head in court.
Sydney Fisher and Arnett Flournoy were convicted in recorder's court of stealing an overcoat from Dr. E. B.’s auto several nights ago and were sentenced to 60 days on the county road. Brax & hero, arrested for public drunkenness on Murray and Desmond, was fined 101 dollars and sentenced to 50 days.
Washington January 23 Chairman McFadden of the House Banking and Currency Committee introduced a bill he said aims to curb the fight between county banks and the Federal Reserve Banks and the Federal Reserve Banks over check collection practices.
Chicago January 23 Patrick Tierney half frozen after a night on the streets entered police headquarters and confessed to killing his wife and three year old son saying poverty drove him to murder. He said he bought a hatchet with 80 cents money and killed them then walked the streets seeking poison and death.

The Tombigbee river rose seven feet to 34.12 feet on Sunday and is forecast to reach 49 feet by next Saturday. The Black Warrior crest has passed and is falling, while Selma in Alabama is expected to reach 86 feet as rain is forecast for Mobile tonight and Tuesday. A severe cold wave is moving east, but Mobile should escape the worst.
Premier Lloyd George congratulated Michael Collins minister of finance in the Irish provisional government and Sir James Craig leader of the Ulster unionist government on a friendly agreement.
