A family from Mobile suffered fatalities when their car collided with a bus near DeFuniak Springs. William Williams, 32, died at the scene along with his father and mother, Lyn Williams and others, while his nephew also died. Williams brother Filiater is critically injured and Miss Gertrud has minor injuries.
Nicholas patronas son of Mr and Mrs is being honored at a Greek Orthodox ceremony in Martins Ferry Ohio with uncles Paul and Louis Couras as sponsors. A later trip to Pensacola and Montgomery is noted for church duties in Archdiocese duties.
Firefighters worked through daylight hours on Sunday as temperatures reached 18 degrees. Most calls stemmed from defective flues and accidental sparks. Slight damage reported in several incidents.

Gladys May Parks, 35, was sentenced to 25 years hard labor for Dorothy Rogers' death and 10 years for Timothy Rogers' death, to run concurrently. The bodies were found near National Park and Absecon. she claimed Dorothy died after a light whipping and Timothy died from an accidental fall.
The Mobile Police Relief Association finishes plans for the annual benefit ball at the municipal wharf on February 5 at 8:30 p.m. President J. J. Convy announced. A city parade precedes the event, led by association members starting about 7:45. Two bands will provide music and dancing will continue for hours. Mayor Harry T. Hartwell is expected to speak briefly. Ticket sales are progressing well as members distribute them. The association has donated more than $300 to various causes and over $2,000 has been paid to widows and sick police officers since May.
In Phoenix Walter G. Dague admits involvement in the killing of a Pennsylvania state policeman alongside Mrs. Irene Schroeder and a third man. The confession, dated in Phoenix, details the alleged plot and attendees.

Christopher Weyhe, 67, died of exposure. Temperatures fell well below zero Saturday and were near 25 degrees today with relief promised in the Midwest.
New York records two deaths due to extreme cold as a arctic disturbance drives temperatures to 10 degrees above zero and heavy snow blankets parts of Pennsylvania, with one elderly woman found dead in an unheated West 4th Street apartment and another man in a Bowery doorway. Pennsylvania reports three deaths from cold and five total from snow and exposure in the state.
In Monterey Mexico three people died as a severe cold snap gripped the area. Thermometers fell to 23 degrees above freezing and public fountains froze. Water pipes froze across the city and surrounding districts, while crops suffered extensive damage until the sun returned.
The Memphis area reports four deaths due to extreme cold. An 18 month old boy, John Albert Brooks, died from pneumonia caused by exposure after living in a tent on the Bristol highway. A Black man was found frozen on a snow covered farm near Eljenale, with two other cold related deaths noted.
The Edward Lee Chapter United Daughters of Confederacy planted two live oaks in Duncan Place Sunday to honor Admiral Raphael Semmes and General Robert E. Lee. Max Rogers led the ceremony with remarks on the Immortals and Joyce Gilmer’s poem Trees read by Rev. Thomas R. Bridges. A guard of cadets from University Military School assisted. Yancy Pringle blew a bugle.

Floyd S Vaughn of Axis is named assistant district census supervisor to lead the enumeration in south Alabama. He acts for ill district supervisor Dr J E Evans, opening the census office in the post office building in February and selecting enumerators.
Prisoners indicted by the last grand jury and in jail without bail are to be arraigned at 9 30 Tuesday morning before Judge Claude A. Grayson in circuit court. Three capital cases head the docket including James Merrell and Jule Williams and Willie Williams with various robbery burglary and larceny charges. Attorneys Gordon Booth Hand McDermott Hogan Robertson appointed to defend the named defendants.
Recorder D H Edington fined Mathieu Hawkins 75 days or 75 dollars and fined Robert Davenport Vera Millhouse and James Rogers 50 days costs each for violations of the prohibition law. J Hosea of Plateau paid 15 dollars and costs or 15 days for speeding on Craft highway. Wade Marlow’s case was sent to the federal government at police request, as Warren Burch reported a 14 year old girl connected to the alleged transport.
In Baton Rouge on January 20 a jury found Dewey Key guilty of the murder of farm youth David Lloyd. The jury recommended mercy despite the prosecution seeking the death penalty. The slaying occurred after a liquor sale at Key’s restaurant and the defense argued self defense. Key had been pardoned years ago after serving part of a robbery term.
The last of four bandits who robbed the Algiers branch of Canal Bank and Trust Company of 10000 surrendered to police. Walter Calvni, named by the others as their companion, was captured south of New Orleans near police headquarters after a wide search by 50 officers. Two robbers were arrested soon after the robbery and a third later at a country store.
C. P. Burnett was elected president of Unifruitco, a group of United Fruit Company Mobile office employees. Other officers include John F. Murray as vice president, Fred Hoyle as secretary, and B. Streber as treasurer. Installation set for January 31.
Gainesville Georgia resident Mrs. R L Freeman credits Thedford s Black-Draught with relief from constipation causing fatigue headaches and bad mouth taste. She says it’s quick to relieve and harmless and recommends it highly after thirty years of use. The ad notes the medicine in a yellow package costing about one cent per dose.
Observations show probate and inferior criminal court activities paused all Monday due to a legal holiday in Alabama. Courts will resume normal sessions on the next business day after the holiday.

Miss Antoinette Emily Hanlon a native and lifelong Mobile resident and Convent of the Visitation graduate died at a local infirmary Sunday at 11 06 after a short illness. Late Charles Lowndes Huger of Mobile dies at home Monday morning at 4:45. She is survived by son Charles Lowndes Huger and daughters Meta Deas and Ruth Dargan Huger. Funeral Tuesday at 11 from 109 South P street with interment in Magnolia cemetery. Rodge officiating.
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Huber 51 lifelong Theodore resident died Monday at 1 42 am. She is survived by her husband Edward and four sons J C T P H D W L Huber and two daughters Lillian and Anna May of Theodore. also five brothers George Ben James William Lundy two sisters Mrs L J Gollett Mrs Rushie Tillman and three grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Higgins and Courtne.
Funeral services for Walter Ray Mond Lassiter were held Saturday morning from the family residence in Prichard. The body was sent to Ararat, Alabama for burial with Higgins and Courtney directing.
