Robbery of Safe at Boys Industrial Home Leads to Arrests
An iron safe stolen last night from the second floor of the Boys Industrial Home on Lafayette street containing 250 dollars was recovered today. Police led by Chief Warren F. Burch detained two young men, Fowler and Calloway, who confessed and implicated others in the theft. The safe, weighing 200 pounds, was found wrecked in a swamp near Owens Tanner and the money recovered from under Howard Vows, 18, of 101 North Franklin Street. Calloway, 16, of 57 North Georgia avenue, also faced custody with details of the break in and transport to the crime scene. Fowler reportedly rented a auto and, with Calloway, moved the safe during supper hour, breaking it open with hammers and burying the proceeds.
