Lancaster Ohio January 13 The Associated Press reports Nations debate wartime funding and political responsibility. Mr Cox criticizes administration delays while urging stronger American backing for war measures amid growing discontent and protests.
Sheriff Paul Cazalas announced the appointments of deputies to serve in various county precincts. Jefferies, longtime Gitronelle officer, was retained. Arthur Davis to Gulfcrest. Perry Bosarge to Bayou la Satre. Gaylord Willard to Theodore. N Stringfellow to Wilmer. M A Figgins to Crichton cotton mill village. Pugh to Grand Bay and Union Church. George Mills to Plateau. Chickasaw police deputies were banned, including L V Vaught, Joe Cameron, H J Jacob, Dan Vaught, Maples, and J A Green.
The Mobile & Ohio and Southern Railway will offer social Mardi Gras fares from February 9 to 13. Harvey E. Jones, passenger dept chief, says ads will promote Mobile to St Louis and new lines. Louisaisle & Nash also announced. Mardi Gras tickets cost one and one half fare.
Andrew Harris was arrested and held at the county jail as a fugitive from justice. Columbus Mississippi police sought Harris on a grand larceny charge and sent a long distance message to Sheriff Paul Cazalas. The Columbus chief of police wired for an officer to Harris.
Union officials including G Perkins and international press from the Cigarmakers union will arrive in Mobile Saturday morning. They will stay several days in the city and hold joint center meetings at the union headquarters.
Colder Friday with partly cloudy skies in parts of Alabama and Mississippi. Tonight remains cloudy with warmer temps in eastern areas then cooler conditions move in across the region.
The Alabama Public Service Commission sought to force Mobile Gas Company to open its books to the state board. Special Master S H Dent Jr denied the petition, ruling an examination would be unfair as an audit had just occurred and rate disputes were in court. The PSC had asked for an audit after the company refused access to its books.
L C Irvine chairman of the campaign committee for ratification of the bond will address Union Church tonight. Chaippian A B Towle of the board of revenue and road commissioners also appears. Commissioners Cleveland Prine and County Highway Engineer Holder Jr attend a Fowl River meeting to urge votes for passage.
TheWilliam Woolsey of 207 Church Street facing man slaughter charges in a auto mobile crash that killed John P. Doyle, 22, a machinist. The case was continued at the state’s request and reset for Saturday morning as Woolsey and several others injured in the crash recover.
Mobile County tax assessor Edward Laurenphine warns many residents have not yet filed property assessments. Assessments must be completed by February 28, and a ten percent penalty applies after that date. All property owners, including those who do not reside in their homes, are required to participate.
Alma Thomas sues Mamie Teiit in circuit court claiming ten thousand dollars in damages for allegedly contriving to alienate her husband and deprive her of his comfort, fellowship, and affection. The complaint accuses the defendant of wrongfully intending to injure the plaintiff and destroy her marital relationship.
Numerous bonds were forfeited in the circuit court from the recorder's court today. Names include J F Cawthon traffic law J Ritchie drunk Joseph Phillips H Enger John Brunson disorderly conduct Other cases saw nolle prosequi dismissals and a jury finding not guilty for Robert Bowling on disorderly conduct and related charges.
Two pleas of guilty were recorded in federal court on prohibition charges with $1 fines. Defendants Charlie New of Mobile and Hudson Lewis of Clarke County faced sentencing, while others from Clarke County were brought in by Deputy Marshal Calhoun on warrants. Lester Hidloway and Tobe Davis were released on bond. J L Thompson Pinkton Holloway Pollard Dickton Ben Pugh and Jim Bride remained jailed.
William E. Moody a member of the city detective force was restored to his police roll after a leave of several months to study automobile mechanics in Cincinnati Ohio. A letter from Montgomery Chief W H Taylor thanked Chief O Shaughnessy for the services of Police Lieutenant Cliff Adams and Detective George Meagan during Governor Brandon inauguration ceremonies.
In Gainesville Via San 18. Abe Wilson a Black man accused of cattle theft was found hanged two miles from Newberry after being taken from the Newberry jail by a mob. He had been sentenced to six months and was reportedly lynched following a jail escape.
Washington reports total value of American merchandise exports in 1922 at 2,331,516,735 dollars, down from 2,494,033,356 in 1921 and 2,495,033,356 in 1920, per Commerce Department statistics.
In Montgomery on Jan 13 lawyers flagged a defect in the Mobile port amendment ratified last November. They questioned whether bonds can be issued or if the governor can sign bond plans. Port leaders remain confident a workaround will be found. Sidney J. Bowie said proponents knew of the flaw and may resubmit the amendment if needed.
Police Chief P J O Shaughnessy wrote a personal reply to City Commissioner Hartwell denying he sought to sway officers to back George Crawford in the upcoming September election. Latimer Cardosa veteran man of Dixie died here after two months illness. Former Richmond resident married to Mrs. Cardosa and left a widow, son H. L. Jr., mother Mrs. Ki. W. Cardosa of Virginia Beach, four brothers Hunter Chicago Edward Norfolk Harry Havana Byrd New York, and sister Miss Elizabeth Virginia Beach. Cardosa aged 48.

First Lieutenant Russell R. Fox of Chanute, Illinois, and Sergeant Dozey L. were killed or injured when their aircraft crashed into a tree during takeoff at Fort She. A gust of wind caused a sideslip, and the plane struck a tree, falling to the ground. Home address not listed.
