Mother and sister of a slain girl are held as authorities warn a cold front will sweep the region. Forecasters predict the coldest weather of the season, with temperatures near 22 degrees and areas in the state facing further wintery conditions Thursday.
Mobile waterworks chief Herve Charest asks all city residents to shut off their water to protect pipes during a predicted 22 degree freeze. The advisory stresses safeguarding plumbing and water lines from the extreme cold.

Thompson reported firing both barrels at the intruder as he fled, leaving the man seen limping. Authorities checked hospitals for the wounded suspect.
Junior Chamber of Commerce members in Mobile planned two months of odd jobs around city homes to aid unemployed men. Arthur Vander Sys led the effort proposing two week service days and urged signups to prevent charity stigma. Workers would be paid eight hours for 1.50 dollars and recommended by the Family.

A fire at the La Clede hotel on Government Street caused by an electrical short near the elevator shaft forced more than twenty guests to flee via fire escapes. Two alarms were rung. one fireman was injured, and damage runs to thousands though insured. Fire was under control by 11 p.m. with operations focused on the second and third floors.
James Stauter and John Drain admitted guilt in the alleged theft of 15 cartons of cigarettes from Gilpin's drug store at Lafayette and St. Stephens road. Entrance was through a rear window. cigarettes were recovered from a nearby vacant house. Frank Lane reported a stolen spare tire from his car parked near 1152 Springhill Avenue.
Ida Marshall, a negro woman, was badly hurt late Tuesday when her parked car on South Conception near Elmira was struck by a hit and run vehicle. She identified Arthur McReynolds as the other driver, but officers were still seeking him Wednesday as the occupants fled, taking the license plate.
Grand jury reviews jail from basement to roof including cell departments during Tuesday afternoon session. They plan further inspections of the county poor asylum convict camp county farm and public schools in the city with committees to report Friday afternoon.

The session adjourned to Friday 11 am after adopting a concurrent adjournment. The senate discussed adjourning until 11 am next Tuesday following the inauguration of Governor Elect Miller.
D C Hogg was elected senior warden and Alex Hancock junior warden at Trinity Episcopal church during a parish meeting. Vestrymen named include R H Coffin secretary treasurer H B Crocker and others. Plans for a new church and parish house on the Rickardy property on Dauphin street were outlined as diocesan approval is sought.
The Pan American Petroleum Corp plans short flights with invited Mobilian passengers between 10 a m and 1 50 p m Thursday aboard the Stanolind III tri motor. C G Wright local agent announced the craft will reach Bates Field between 4 and 5 p m Wednesday but no passenger flights will occur until Thursday morning.
Oakley L. Davis a Canadian charged with illegal entry pleaded guilty before Judge Robert T. Ervin Wednesday. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and to be deported at term's end after being taken into immigration custody.

Montgomery January 14. Lt Gov W C Davis who failed to win the Democratic nomination in August 1930 told investigators probing Alabama elections that the process was on a cold trail. He said elections were fair though slight irregularities may have occurred, and there is nothing to complain of.
The Northland with 31 passengers and 30 crew hit a sunken reef off Helmcken Island while entering Johnstone Straits and drove aground on Salmon River beach. Salvage King sailed from Victoria to assist and is due to reach the site at noon. The vessel was en route from Seattle to Ketchikan Alaska. Captain Leonard Williams ordered the ship to the mouth of Salmon River after striking the reef.

Police detained Beulah Limerick’s mother Dora Limerick and sister Julia Bywaters for questioning amid the study of a melted metal piece found in a stove. Authorities said the metal is likely a door hinge, not the gun used in the death of 19 year old Beulah.
