Birmingham firemen H L Hagan and C Smith fought through a burning frame to save Sim Hartsfield from his sickbed. He suffered slight burns but was not believed to be in serious condition. J M Hartsfield, father of the son, also received burns fleeing the residence.
The Swedish cruiser Fylgia will reach port Tuesday at 2 pm with open public inspection planned later that day. Officials arrange theater tickets for officers and crew, possible boat races, and a lasting impression on Mobillans as the ship visits Philadelphia and Mobile. Washington January 12 Congress leaders abandoned efforts to pass farm relief legislation this session. They cited President-elect Hoover’s stance in favor of calling an early special session of the next Congress.

Tariff revisions and farm relief legislation are planned to move concurrently, with no broad tariff bill anticipated. Reddy railroad foreman of Anchorage Alaska died in St Paul Minnesota after a 5000 mile stretcher journey in an effort to regain health His illness cancer prompted officials to arrange nurse care and transport to the Mayo Clinic Rochester before a return trip to Alaska He died in hospital after arrival.
Dorothy Hopkins, once a New Orleans debutante, and her husband Robert T. Hopkins, were held today on government charges as counterfeiters and possessors of counterfeit money. They were previously involved in a 1923 blackmail dispute with Joseph Fleischmann, an elderly florist, over a suit Dorothy filed claiming alienation of affections. Fleischmann denied the claims, calling it a conspiracy.
Two street cars collided at Clark and Center streets near Lincoln Park last night injuring fifteen passengers. A northbound Clark street car left its tracks and swung into the path of a southbound car. Authorities investigated the triple junction and remaining passengers were attended at the scene.

Joint installation of officers for Spante wer Veter Seabee Veterans will be held at 8 o'clock Tuesday night at the armory. Prospective members may obtain applications from Gillette adjutant at 22 Rickardy Street or at the armory Tuesday night. The camp aims to recruit Spanis War veterans in Mobile before June first. Birmingham has launched a drive for 1000 members. The Mobile area covers nearby Mississippi coast and adjacent counties. After the joint installation, refreshments will be served.

Mrs. H. K. Dawson reported a $250 diamond dinner ring stolen from her home on South Lawrence Street. Detectives Bauer and Lawrence recovered the ring from a 13 year old girl employed as a domestic, and she was sent to juvenile court. Mrs. E. Hines reported attempted break in, and H. Polson said his Ford touring car was stolen at Jackson and St. Louis streets.
Charles H. Smith former Mobile county chief deputy sheriff and longtime L N railroad special agent will become a bailiff of the circuit court on Monday. The appointment by Judge Joel W. Goldsby follows Deputy William Armistead being reassigned within the sheriff's department.

A petition by the Fish River Bridge Company for a permit to build a toll bridge over Fish river in Baldwin County was heard at the Chamber of Commerce. Army engineer Colonel W. D. A. An additional $2 million covers towboat needs and grain facilities at St Louis and related work.
