The Alabama State Nursing Association district No. 3 sponsors a benefit bridge party on Thursday January 14 at 8 pm at the nurses' directory 2300 Springhill Avenue. Funds go to The Hourly Nursing Service for needy families facing serious illness and will be offered to City Welfare the Bureau of Catholic Charities and the Family Welfare bureau of the Community Chest. A teachers forum at Murphy high school auditorium opened with a short program and announced plans for students to visit the frigate Constitution during its visit Tuesday. Mr and Mrs Albert Beuk announce the marriage of their daughter Mary Elizabeth to W L McCalister a naval aviation pilot of Tulsa Oklahoma. The ceremony occurred Thursday at 7 30 PM at the Dauphin Way Baptist church with Rev J E Barnes officiating A reception followed at 31 Lee Street The couple will reside in San Diego California.

Mrs A Cleveland announces the approaching marriage of her daughter Irma to Mr Leo Herrmann. The wedding is planned for Monday at St Theresa’s Church at 8 30 a m.

Rev Witt leads Holy Communion at Oakdale kindergarten on Sunday at 9 o clock with Sunday school after. Bishop McDowell conducted Sunday afternoon service at Oakdale kindergarten and a business meeting followed. The bishop said a new church for the congregation would likely be erected and finished before year end. Mrs Willis P Fairley longtime Oakdale resident died New Years afternoon after a long illness. Survived by husband Willis L Fairley and daughter Sadye Fairley. Funeral held Saturday.
