In Tchula Mississippi near here two young sons of railway worker William Ray aged 5 and 2 died when a can of gasoline used to start a fire exploded. The family suffered injuries with the mother possibly fatally burned. Ray and wife were taken to Greenwood hospital by rail.
White Plains New York December 5 Mrs Alice Jones Rhinelander judged not guilty of fraud in marriage to Leonard Rhinelander now seeks separation on abandonment grounds. Attorney Lee Parsons Davis said summons and complaint prepared and service accepted only after judge consult. The verdict found Alice of color and not deceiving husband. final decision rests with Supreme Court Justice Marschauser.
Judge Robert T. Ervin orders condemnation of the British rum schooner Hazel E and its cargo delayed pending appeals by defense attorney Palmer Pillans. About 2,000 cases and 20,000 gallons of liquor stored here, crew fines ranged from 300 to 500 dollars, with bonds at 500 to 1,000 dollars. Vessel captured by CG-252 and CG-250 amid wartime liquor suppression.
Jacob Reiss of Reiss Mercantile Company and Mrs Nellie Weeks were cut while trying to stop Mamie Baker a suspected thief at the Reiss store on Dauphin street. Baker allegedly drew a knife and fled into the street after an attempted arrest. Crowds pursued as cries for help rang out and Weeks sustained minor injuries.

In New Orleans on December 5 an armed robber shot and killed grocer R. Giglio and wounded his wife Angeline. Police suspect robbery or a feud. two men are being questioned based on Mrs. Giglio’s information as detectives hunt a masked assailant who did not loot the cash drawer.
Reports say two ships were struck off Baltimore near the Potomac River mouth. The British steamer Campania and an Italian vessel were damaged. Campania bound to Baltimore from Antwerp with potash cargo. Tug dispatched for aid. extent of damage unknown.
Colonel Eugenio Blanco once governed the Caroline islands under Spanish sovereignty and was honored by Kaiser Wilhelm. He formed a regiment of Macabee soldiers who backed Spain in the 1896 revolution. the Macabees pressed for fees in the Philippine insurrection.
Colonel Andrew Hero Jr was selected as the new chief of coast artillery succeeding Major General Thomas W Coe who retires after 37 years of service. Hero a New Orleans native has spent his entire military career in the coast artillery.
The body of H. C. Fourton a former New Orleans theatrical manager died in Atlanta and was being shipped to New Orleans for burial. Fourton led the French Opera Company for years and later worked with the Jake Wells Amusement Company.
About 100 nurserymen from Mobile Baldwin and other areas gathered in Mobile for a South Alabama Nurserymen's Association session at the Chamber of Commerce. Topics included badwood care bud selection dusting powders and grape disease control. Dr. F. T. Nye of Irvington presided with B. B. Davis of Mobile in leadership. The event was not an annual meeting and no officer elections were held.
John H. Moore of the city park department was acquitted in the recorders court of reckless driving in an accident that injured Elmer Coleman. Testimony indicated a larger boy threw Coleman from the vehicle and Moore was not at fault.
Herbert J. Stanley, an ex service man said to suffer nervous trouble and to have been in many hospitals, jumped from a window of train No 4 near Magazine Point this afternoon while in Deputy Harry Moran's custody en route to a Augusta Georgia hospital. The train was stopped and a search conducted. Stanley is described as five feet eight inches tall and weighing 145 pounds.
George Barker of Mobile and Washington and Lee University Lexington Va was killed in an automobile accident at Roanoke today relatives here received the news Barker reared by grandparents in Mobile attended Blackstone Military Institute and Washington and Lee University survived by his father in New York City Eldridge Barker his brother informed their aunt Mrs Mark Lyons by telegram

State highway engineers agree to widen Hall's Mill road on the north side by five feet at Abbot station to spare L. L. Noble's Satuma orchard. Only six orange trees must be moved. four officials plus two engineers inspected the site with county board leaders. Bridge and culvert work on Hall's Mill road to Mobile to Theodore will finish before concrete works begin. A crew will start improving the bay front road from Eldridge's to the south end next week.
The Shipping Board steamer Federal of Mobile collided with the British steamer Ashton in the River Scheldt at Antwerp. The British ship sank. master pilot and three crew members are missing, four crew rescued. Federal, carrying cargo from Mobile and Pensacola to Europe, was at Antwerp to load freight for Gulfport. Walter Jones, a Black chauffeur, was booked today on a reckless driving charge after his auto truck collided with the city patrol wagon at Warren and St Louis streets. The crash caused about 50 dollars in damage to the police vehicle.
Jack Massingill, convicted of manufacturing prohibited liquors and given an eighteen month to two year sentence, surrendered at the county jail and will serve in the state penitentiary.
Glenn Mersell, crew member aboard the steamer Suworde, fell from a swing to a stack while loading cargo at the foot of St Louis street this morning around 9 30 o clock and sustained a broken kneecap. He was taken to the Marine hospital for treatment. This follows another accident on the ship yesterday morning injuring J C Parker.
A one story frame building at 860 Marine Street owned by T. J. Ford sustained slight damage from a fire begun by sparks falling on the roof. The fire department also responded to a small house fire at Good Pay and Persimmon Street caused by sparks.
H L Johnson of Detroit Michigan was fined 600 dollars or 50 days on a disorderly charge today. Johnson was arrested last year on Royal and Church streets with two women who complained to the officer that he had insulted them. When asked to respond to the charge the court ordered the fine.
King Hayes, a negro chauffeur for Judge P. D. Crawford of Dallas, was arrested at Warren and 8th Streets for carrying concealed weapons on a Pierce Arrow en route to St. Petersburg. He was arraigned before the recorder and the case continued to December 10 at the request of his attorney W. Tompkins.
The historic clock removed from the old Central market tower will be placed in front of the new fire station site at Scott Street, Springhill Avenue and St. Francis Streets. City Commissioner Harry T. Hartwell, in charge of the fire department, announced the relocation plans.
Monroe Harris and Armistead Wwl Hams, both described as negroes, are jailed on charges of trapping fur bearing animals without a license. District court official Oberhaus, 5 Sr., leads the case alleging the duo set illegal traps for fur. Court date proceedings follow.
