In Charleston South Carolina on August 23 the city Democratic executive committee declared John P Grace the mayoral nominee after reviewing 77 challenged ballots. Grace edged Tristram Hyde by a fourteen vote margin with an official tally of 3 446 to Hyde's 3 412, nominally sealing nomination as election.
Father Joseph Walsh S J ordained in Spain a year ago returns to Mobile and will celebrate the 10 o clock mass at the Cathedral tomorrow. He will impart blessing to the congregation after the mass. Bishop gn will give a short sermon. Walsh son of Captain ph M Walsh of Mobile and served as a choir boy in the Cathedral sanctuary.
H Waters, a tsiner, was fined 25 dollars and 25 days by Recorder D H meter for reckless driving that struck Mrs C R Kimball on June 4 near Roper Government streets. Waters appealed and was released on a 100 dollar bond. Kimball suffered a head injury and remained bedridden.
Major R. B. Thomas of the United States engineering corps said yesterday the Mobile office may be moved to Tuscaloosa and Gulfport and Biloxi may get branch offices. Quarters would be in federal buildings in those cities.
Officers of the local colony at Fairhope plan an auditorium for the organic school. A 500 person capacity building is proposed to serve winter gatherings and community events.

Bowen seeking a suitable craft from Mobile via a Great Lakes voyage. A large dancing feature will extend from bow to stern for water and excursion use.
Births greatly outnumber deaths in Mobile for the week ending August 23, per the board of health. Total deaths 16. list of white and colored deaths includes Cary W. Butt, Shi don, Sage Jr., Hen wick, Johnston, Went worth, Redding, Reimer, Hyde, Easterling, Ford, Johnson, Thomas, Batiste, Harwood, Wiley, and others.
E W Christian, longtime resident and member of the firm Christian and Craft, died during a vacation trip. He served in Mosby's Rangers in the Civil War and was active in Masonic circles. He leaves three sons Armistead Warren and Richard. His body will be sent to Mobile for burial, with funeral expected Monday.
The city commission resolves a dispute over buying Harry B. O'Connor's property in the southern city area to create a recreation park. City pays O'Connor 2300 dollars. next steps involve other parcels for park development.
Rev J M Dannelly pastor of St Francis Street Methodist Church will speak Sunday night in Bienville Square under Federated Churches of Mo auspices. Arrangements are made for a large congregation and a musical program will feature singers from various churches.

Senator Fletcher of Fiori was struck by a streetcar on Thursday and remained resting well last night. Doctors reported no complications and said his condition improved with no new concerns.
