London August 15 The foreign office released the French text of the pope’s peace appeal to the king with a copy of his message to the warring nations urging an end to the conflict. The pontiff expresses heartfelt desire to halt hostilities and seeks swift action.

J L Coleman reports $619,660 paid to Mobile landowners for shipyard sites, with remaining options totaling $780,000 for 11 500 acres under Tennessee Land Company control, to be exercised this week.
Hodges Boiler Works plans to double capacity and add three new departments including machine shop blacksmith and foundry. Three new buildings will be constructed and equipment costs will be substantial. When operating, 100 or more skilled workers are expected to be employed.
