Mobile county license agents began a drive against operators of foreign plate cars after state orders. Four Louisiana licensees were arrested as part of a continuing campaign to require titles or license receipts.
The United States destroyer Mahan will dock at Mobile city docks Friday morning to pick up naval reserve corps from the Birmingham district for a several day training cruise. The vessel has visited before to take on reservists and will remain at least two days. Reserve members will board Saturday and the ship will depart shortly after. Disembarkation will follow upon return to port.
Edward Dillard, 17, of Mobile, was injured Tuesday night after diving into shallow water at a Montgomery municipal pool. He suffered a severe gash on the forehead and was to have an X-ray to check for possible skull fracture. he remained hospitalized Wednesday.
William Cox a former Mobile businessman now living in Angéles California travels to Mobile with his daughter Miss Margaret to visit relatives. They plan to return to Los Angeles where Cox works in real estate. He notes Mobile’s growth and compares it with Los Angeles modern improvements.
Police Lieutenant W. W. Le Gear in charge of traffic announced Wednesday that St. Joseph Street north Beauregard and Conception Street south from Government Avenue are closed to travel at designated intersections.

George Fadla, 56, was in county jail for safekeeping Wednesday morning. Officers say he jumped a $2,000 prohibition bond in Houston. Carl T. Martin, seaman, fined $10 or 10 days for drunk in recorder's court. J. A. Crumley, negro, $50 and costs of 50 days for beating a negro woman. Goldie Johnson, negro, fined $15 for beating his wife with a stick. Laura White and Minson Bivlings each fined $10 and costs of 10 days for disorderly conduct.
Motorcycle Officer Gene Stout reported Wednesday that he has made 25 speeding arrests on Springhill avenue since it opened for traffic a few weeks ago. He noted drivers slowed after the street's opening but urged motorists to slow further when entering the avenue.
The report states a city traffic officer downtown remains seriously ill after several months of illness. No further details on cause or prognosis are provided.
The Alabama Dry Dock and Shipbuilding Co asked Col. W A D Anderson to permit closing Pinto Pass between Pinto and Blakeley Islands to dredge a basin on Pinto Island. Allman’s office at the county courthouse. The bride came from New Orleans to meet the groom and they will reside at 163 St Emanuel street. A second couple Joseph Clarence Lister laborer of Prichard Alabama and Miss Ruth Boyce of Prichard were married by Judge Allman as witnesses looked on.
Six year old Maxine Drysdale daughter of Harry Drysdale of the city waterworks gave a radio performance in Gulfport Mississippi on Tuesday afternoon. Her mother Mrs. Harry Drysdale accompanied on piano and several telegrams of congratulations were received.
Mary Bogan sues Frank E. Foster in circuit court claiming she was injured in a July 16 collision between a car she rode in and an automobile driven by Foster at Conception and Texas streets.
A Cleveland-Detroit amphibian passenger plane sank in Lake Erie after a forced landing in dense fog. Pilot Cy Caldwell, a woman passenger Mrs. Robert Little, and mechanic C A Lupold were rescued after two hours afloat. Co-pilot John Kasper remained missing, search by air and water ongoing.
Hortense Saunders reports that talking pictures promise to cut education costs and extend teaching reach from kindergarten to postgraduate study. Dr H D Kitson of Columbia University notes talkies will not replace professors but can vastly boost teachers' effectiveness by filming expert lectures and demonstrations for broad audiences.
At Coolidge dam in Arizona the floodwaters from the Gila River rose behind the new structure engulfing the old Apache homelands near San Carlos. The rising lake advances toward the abandoned towns as it erodes the former Geronimo jail site beneath its surface.
The San Marcial levee failed this morning as Rio Grande floodwaters inundated the town. All buildings were swept away except the Harvey hotel and the Santa Fe depot, according to a report to the state bureau of public health.

In Columbus on Aug 14 Dr. James H Snook is guarded as the date nears for the confession of his fate. He has been morose and uncommunicative as the "zero hour" approaches when he will learn the price for brutally beating Miss Theora Hix to death.
In Columbus a prosecutor denounces Dr. James H. Snook as the slayer of Theora Hix, calling the incident the most brutal murder in Ohio history. He accuses Snook of lying to officers and says the victim, a campus co ed, had no need for self defense claims. The defense cites self defense as motive. Court proceedings include shifting jurors and witness framing.
At a Sanford North Carolina filling station three men were killed and a woman seriously wounded in a gun battle. The deceased were Ola Birdsong and Lee Birdsong of Louisville Kentucky and George B. Edwards who ran the station. Mrs. Beulah Montgomery and her baby, traveling with the Birdsongs, were jailed for investigation.
Paris reports Mme Jean Assolant formerly Pauline Worker of New York filed for divorce from French pilot Jean Assolant in a case rejected for missing papers including a birth certificate. She wired the United States for documents and plans to refile once available. Grounds not disclosed.
Tokyo reports six general staff officers killed and another injured when a new bombing plane crashed at Tachikawa Airdrome near Tokyo during an inspection trip. The dead include Major General Fuse and General Abe. Major Fukayama died en route to hospital and an NCO body was found, totaling eight fatalities.

New York August 14 directors of the Sinclair Consolidated Oil Corporation declared an extra dividend of 25 cents on common stock in addition to the regular quarterly dividend of 50 cents. Both dividends are payable October 15 to stockholders of record September 14.
