Fire swept the downtown district early today causing an estimated 60 000 dollars in damage. A three story building at 16 18 20 and 22 Daw street plus several adjacent properties were heavily damaged. Occupants escaped with little time. firemen saved adjoining structures and controlled the blaze.
New York reports Cornelius Callahan 28, formerly aide at Bancitary corporation, was brought back to the city from Montreal after being indicted for grand larceny. He was placed in custody before speaking with the district attorney’s office, with police and investigators guiding the transfer.
