The Spring Hill pumping station cut off at noon due to a main line joint blowout on La Fayette Street about 25 feet south of Springhill Avenue. City waterworks chief W Soost said the affected area lies west of Ann Street at Dauphin and west of Lafayette Street with pressure near 85 degrees. Officials urged careful use for 24 hours to conserve pressure as repairs were planned. The Bienville station would supply the city after noon.

Target Practice For Tallapoosa Begins In Week
Repairs completed and all in readiness the coast guard cutter Tallapoosa will enter annual target practice. For several days next week three inch guns and six pounders will fire while crews vie for accuracy at the Biloxi base. The steamship Lake Fairport will arrive in Mobile this afternoon with 50 400 bags of sugar weighing 100 pounds each. About half will be unloaded here and the rest sent to New Orleans. The Hershey interests own the sugar, Hopper and English broker the cargo, and a prior shipment of 44 000 bags was unloaded here last November. A second vessel with about 33 000 bags is expected around August 24. The Cuban sugar movement has boosted customs receipts.
