B Willington an employee of the Engineers resided at 1 Anthony Street. He was injured when a heavy coil crushed him at Magnolia and streets. He suffered three broken ribs, internal injuries, and was described as critical after examination at City Hospital.
95 cases cleared are pending in the court of appeals or the supreme court, leaving 180 to be tried. During the term there were 142 on the municipal appeal docket. these cases were disposed of, leaving 67 cases in the pending set. Included in the 67 are cases pending in the court of appeals or the supreme.
In Seany Mississippi a jury sentenced Chester Hale a farmer to life imprisonment for the July 5 shooting death of Hall Hale. The Hall family controversy led to the fatal incident with Chester Hale and his son Jon Hale implicated in the case and indictments filed.
Clevinger, under a writ of arrest to appear as a witness in a driving case, had his bond forfeited Saturday in recorder's court. The bondsmen must pay 100 into the city's treasury.
The Warrior river barge line announces export rates for tobacco from Nashville to Mobile via the Nashville Chattanooga St. Louis route, Tennessee Kentucky. Charges mirror those to New Orleans and were filed with the Chamber of Commerce office.
William L. White of Birmingham campaigned in Alabama counties and planned to visit Mobile to meet residents about his Democratic primary bid. He delivered talks across the state and would be in Mobile County in the coming days.
The first bale of cotton for the crop arrived at Mobile on Friday and was stored at the state docks. It weighed 561 pounds and was grown by J. F. Woot in the Union Church area. The bale was shipped to H. C. Bowling.

Mobile attorney William B. Inge will preside, with Mayor Harry T. Hartwell introducing Thompson. He notes he has campaigned in over 50 Alabama counties and expects callers from Baldwin County.
More than 1,000 children packed the Saenger theatre for a Saturday matinee club program led by Miss Agnes Griffin and Mrs. Carl. Griffin played popular organ selections with audience participation shown on the screen while classical numbers were also performed.
Ernest McDonald aged 21 and Westley Kitchens 16 were taken into custody by Sheriffs Deputies Ad and Carter and jailed on $500 bond for burglary. Citizens nabbed them after a Grand Bay store break in, finding canned goods carried away. They were found nearby on the railroad track eating the stolen items.
A petition was filed with the Interstate Commerce Commission by the Inland Waterways Corporation seeking sanction to extend barge line service up the Illinois River from the Mississippi to Joliet. The filing also seeks authority for rates integrating rail and barge movements to central and western destinations.
A heat wave moving toward Mobile raised temperatures to 94 degrees by 12:30 PM after starting near 80 at 7:00 AM. The city expected continued rises toward the 100 degree mark as afternoon hours advanced.

Galveston Texas August 2 1930 beauty pageant opened with entrants from Magyar Teuton Russian Gaul and America competing for the title Beauty Queen of the Universe. The event drew 25 000 seats in stands for the parade and luncheon welcome as contestants displayed costumes and floats along the seashore.
Nathan Grebstein of Miami was jailed 60 days for contempt after attempting to bribe Circuit Judge Paul Sarns in the Capone padlock case. Judge Barns testified Grebstein offered $5000 for a favorable ruling, seeking to influence Capone’s home padlock proceeding.
On August 2 in St Louis and Roosevelt Field pilots Dale Jackson Forest O Brine Lou Reichers and Bob Black pushed their hours toward the 554 hour mark seeking a new refueling endurance record. They logged 288 hours in the air at 7 11 am and crossed 300 hours as the world around the around the world attempt began. The Mears and Brown project drew crowds as The City of New York prepared for its 18 000 mile journey.
German airmen Wolfram Hirth and Oscar ler, flying a small single motor monoplane from Berlin to the United States, reached Iceland after a 12 hour jump from the Orkneys. They plan to reach Greenland next before continuing to Canada.
The Mobile County League of Women Voters hosts a candidate forum Monday at 10 AM at the Y M C A. Attending speakers include judge candidates Tisdale Touart and Frank Coffin, tax collector candidate Joe Crow, school board candidate Leo Eldridge, and revenue board candidates Estes D. Sam Ghlgtames and his son Hobson reported discovery of home brew beer in a vacant residence on North Joachim street. Hargett searched the property Saturday morning and bottles were destroyed with no arrests made.
Delafield Wisconsin August 2 A man identified as Jack Zuta a Chicago gangster foe of Jake Lingle was killed amid a dance hall crowd. Gunfire and machine guns silenced him as patrons fled two Illinois plated cars. Capone rumored to have returned to Chicago days earlier remains under police watch.
Charles K. Bailey 52 killed wife Irene 40 and foster son Henry Clay 8 then shot himself in Kingston North Carolina. He was once police court clerk and had been discharged after alleged accounts shortage. Letters spoke of funeral plans amid financial distress.
Mary Booth head nurse at Tuskegee Institute and sister-in-law of Dr. R R Moton was shot six times on the campus by an unidentified assailant. Sheriff C P Rowell said she died shortly after and noted it as the first killing at the negro institution.
Howard Wilson of 251 North Lafayette street told police a sneak thief stole a pair of trousers from his automobile on Friday afternoon. Rev. J. O. Savell owns the trousers. The car was parked near Lafayette street. Mrs. R. B. Williams of 1305 Brown street reported a negro woman entered her home under pretense of washing and took three diamond rings dresses underwear and a gold bracelet.

Wall Street today showed minimal activity with only 366090 shares traded on the New York Stock Exchange the smallest Saturday turnover since May 8 1926. Prices were firmer but moves were narrow with V 8 Steel Radio American Can General Motors and General Electric up 62 to 112 cents while Consolidated Gas rose 437 and Auburn Auto 4.

Investigators suspect foul play as broken bushes and dragged body imply murder or concealment. The victim wore a white shirt khaki trousers black shoes and carried a gold signet ring bearing the initials M B.
New Haven police say Jane seeks to identify a man who disappeared from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on February 28. The man matches descriptions, has a southern accent, claims to have lived in North Carolina cities, and may be memory impaired. Police have contacted his parents.
Fires raging across western Montana and northern Idaho defied hundreds of volunteers and air support. Trout Creek near the Idaho line saw a six acre blaze grow to about 2000 acres in 24 hours while Coolwater Creek east of Kooskia consumed 1500 acres as 400 men fought to hold an eight mile front. Airplanes directed observers to strategic points for ground action.
Belmont County sheriff investigates an alleged moonshine gang attempt to hang 38 year old Chicago Joe Janik after he and friends were said to rescue him from a tree limb noose. Janik claims a self styled moonshiner court ordered the execution for stealing a still.
Willie Armistead and Fred Ferguson were docketed at the county jail Saturday by state and county officials on charges related to selling or possessing 11 gallons of prohibited whiskey found in a house on Earle Street between Jackson and Joachim.
