Blood of aged father helps son battle pellagra
Homer Shenley, 22, fought pellagra while employed on the Louisville and Nashville Railroad and at mountain resorts before a desperate blood transfusion from his 59 year old father, L T Shenley, saved him temporarily. The operation at Mobile Infirmary followed weeks of decline and an initial misdiagnosis of tuberculosis. The patient returned home to Laguda, Alabama, to continue his fight with his parents at his side.
