A new Alabama law to prevent fraud in selling Gulf Coast grown fruits and vegetables registers shipper labels and designs. The measure, backed by state cooperation, targets the closed package standard and requires full grower name and address on packages.
Victor D. Rush brother of Will Rush is jailed in Crossville charged with murdering his brother and his brother's wife in Grassy Cove. Coroner’s inquiry says shotgun use and a skull fracture. bloodstained towel found nearby and bloodhounds traced a trail to Victor’s home. He faces preliminary arraignment Friday morning.
A survey will map Long Island for military defense under Coast Artillery officers from Fort Totten. Members of the 87th and 191st companies will identify sites for heavy guns and strategic points. War maps for nearby New York harbor areas will follow. The project will run about six months.

Chamber leaders indicate George A. Maloney county farm demonstrator will be kept as a paid agent if general sentiment is carried out. President J M Walsh calls a meeting at the Cawthon Hotel next Tuesday night to discuss. The group agrees the farm demonstration department has done the most direct good, though chamber funds for his car upkeep are not provided. A plan using back dues or an individual membership list may be proposed.
Five official probes are in progress into the Seventh Avenue subway cave in that killed seven and injured about eighty five. ELBERTON Gay Sept 23 Nelson Statham a negro was shot and killed near here yesterday by a posse after wounding Sheriff Haley and Chief of Police Irvin in a fight when officers and posse tried to take him from a barricaded house. Fire forced his surrender after setting the house alight following a previous shooting of railroad conductor Thomas Robinson on Saturday. None of the white men were fatally injured. The negro was charged with a minor offense.

Judge Safford Berney of the tat and equity court issued an injunction Thursday restraining Williamson and Leon McKeon from selling or storing liquor on the east side of Royal street two south of St Anthony at 160 North Royal street. The injunction follows an application by Assistant County Jack Courtney.
J. D. Andrews vice chairman of the ways and means committee of the Chamber of Commerce sues for a regular luncheon of the committee. The Battle House will host the gathering next Monday evening with members paying their own expenses.
