Bruce Kennedy of the Montgomery Chamber arrives in Mobile to back a city led campaign for a farm loan bank. Mobile hosts a joint meeting with Montgomery and Birmingham contenders to seek Mobile endorsement before next week’s chamber session.
Mr Kennedy states he has come to Mobile to persuade the Chamber of Commerce to back Montgomery for the Federal Farm Loan Bank. Mobile Chamber will decide on Montgomery and Birmingham next Monday evening with invited Montgomery officials to present the case. Alabama may be linked with Florida Georgia and Mississippi as districts and he urges statewide unity to win the bank.
Kennedy extols Alabama's three leading cities Birmingham as an industrial hub, praising their distinct types and regional pride as part of a broader agricultural acknowledgement. He emphasizes Birmingham's industrial strength and the state's diverse urban landscape.
Judge Edington ruled that the wearing apparel of the wife and child could not be held for rent owed by a man. Celeste Croom, an elderly black woman, kept clothes belonging to the man claiming $15 for room rent. Attorney Fr Bromberg argued the husband’s belongings were not liable and the case was changed to embezzlement with a Saturday hearing.
Burglary at Harvey Bros hide and junk dealers in the northern city area led to the seizure of several wet hides. Officers arrested Buddie Reese after locating one hide in a wagon at State and Magnolia streets and two more in an empty jet near the site. Reese faces grand larceny charges.
North Side Baptist Church will end its revival service Sunday night after nightly large congregations. Evangelist E S Poole has drawn strong hearers and Herbert Davis leads the musical program.

Haig reports progress as Thiepval trenches fall while French advance south of Combles and Verdun battles continue with Serbian, French and British gains against Bulgaria near Ostrovo.
Mrs. Walter S. Berwick killed her three month old son and then shot herself in Summerdale Baldwin County Alabama early Thursday morning. A Wednesday night note said she planned to kill herself and child but gave no reason.
Mrs Berwick and her young son were found dead near the roadside a mile from home after she vanished. Neighbors say her home life was happy but she had lately grieved over imagined wrongs. The Summerdale community, large and well connected, was stunned by the tragedy.
Former Senator William Lorimer, defeated in the Illinois Sixth district GOP congressional primary, vows to stay in politics for decades. He quips he will be alive and kicking for at least thirty more years and continues his public career despite the loss.
The New Orleans cotton case involving rate parity with Mobile was postponed again. Interstate Commerce Commission examiner hearing in New Orleans was set for September 27 but postponed to a date to be announced later, per R. G. Cobb, traffic manager of the Chamber of Commerce.
London report says the Norwegian steamer Ethel of 1153 tons gross has been sunk. The Transport Ministry or naval announcement states the loss occurred in the ongoing naval actions today.
Mobile and Baldwin counties will be represented at a New Orleans hearing to protest proposed rate increases on produce moving from local points to northern cities. R G Cobb, Mobile Chamber of Commerce traffic manager, was authorized to attend, with Baldwin county to send at least five delegates and Mobile produce dealers represented as well.
The proposed rate increases would burden growers in this region with about a 25 percent rise. Cobb cites cabbage from Mobile to Chicago rising from 44 to 47 cents per hundred pounds, to St Louis 35 to 40 cents, beans in carload from Mobile to Chicago 52 to 58 cents, and beans to St Louis 45 to 61 cents, illustrating the impact.
The new tariff set to take effect April 15 1915 was suspended by the Interstate Commerce Commission after protests from shippers. A hearing in New Orleans next week will decide final action. Southern roads plan to advance rates affecting Mobile Baldwin counties and the gulf coast shipments to Chicago Cincinnati and other northern points.
Constantine Moulus and George Pappas were fined five dollars each for disorderly conduct after a morning altercation over cooking an order at the B and B case. Lafont Marshall Andrew Marshall Ed Marshall and Willie Webb were fined ten dollars or ten days each by the recorder Friday after a four pistol and shot duel over a goat on Pecan streets. John Jugang was discharged. The fight caused a riot-like scene at one point.
Chris Andrews pleaded guilty in the recorder's court to a prohibition law violation and asked for a continuance until September 22. The judge queried why offenders have no money. Andrews said they do no business these days. Albert Sims also pleaded guilty and was granted until September 22 to raise a $50 fine.
Mrs Corinne A Holt a defendant in several prohibition arrests was discharged Friday after arraignment. Police showed a small amount of liquor found in her room belonged to another person.
Deputies seized liquor valued at about 200 dollars at Jake Zuckerman s place near Wilkinson and Adams. At the Cawthon Hotel officers found liquor worth 50 dollars or more. Other sites named include Robert Elmers 7 St Francis street J H Medevoy Pearl and Basil streets and Dan Petty s place northwest corner Morton and Davis avenues.
Mr. Ross S. Craddock, an oil and mining engineer, arrived in Mobile to begin locating sites for Gulf Oil and Gas Company. He says oil exists on the company property between Cottage Hill road and Government Street road, about five and a half miles from the city limits, and boring will commence once locations are fixed.
Expert swimmer J M M Demmer announced he will attempt a long swim across Mobile Bay starting from Fairhope at 2 o clock Saturday morning. He expects to land in Mobile later the same day and will be advised of his progress along the way. Demmer, a medal winner in swimming contests, is confident he can complete the crossing on schedule.
Judge F W Hermann reports weekly fines totaling 1024 dollars for the inferior criminal court with most collections from prohibition violators who pleaded guilty. He projects a total near 1909 dollars for the week ending September 9.

Local sporting goods dealer Price W. Tompkins of South Royal Street filed a bankruptcy petition in the US district court Thursday. The debtor lists liabilities of 4090.27 with assets of 3492.99. Case referred to Referee Ervin.
Scoutmaster R. B. Paly Jr urges Boy Scouts to assemble in Bienville Square Saturday at 5:00 for a hike to Spring Hill. They plan to depart at 5:30 and will be joined by others en route. Lunches are recommended and camp will be pitched at the hill.
John Ladis proprietor of the pool room at the southwest corner of Royal and Conti streets was arraigned in the recorder s court on a charge of allowing minors to play pool. Officer Ed Sheets testified his son was run out of the pool room. Ladis asked for a jury trial and his bond was set at 160 dollars.
Plans discussed by leaders of the mires val Strike to support 66 000 to 80 000 workers in trades tied to street car operations. James P. Holland warns a sympathy strike if deadlock persists. Central Labor Union of Brooklyn endorses the strike principle and 95 local unions are under its umbrella. New York Central Federated Union to vote tonight.

Mrs Anne E Howe sister of President Wilson is reported to be growing steadily weaker in New London Conn a medical bulletin issued today notes her condition and outlines no further plans by the White House for immediate work or travel.

Theodore Roosevelt announced he will not back Samuel Seabury for New York governor. He told Progressive leaders he would not join a ticket with Wilson and warned that accepting Seabury would split the party and jeopardize the presidential race.
