The papal delegate in Washington is to seek U.S. help in achieving peace. In Baltimore, Secretary Bryan said militarism is dying and the war era ends here, with strength not measured by bloodletting.
London reports two of David Lloyd George's sons joined the territorial forces and will head to the front. Paris dispatches praise censorship discipline and detail German movements in the battle for Paris with Von Kluck leading a three-column assault and Joffre's plans judged narrowly successful. assessments note German right wing risks and Allied endurance shaping the outcome.
The admiralty said the British fleet occupies Herbertshoede in Blanche Bay, the government seat of the German Bismarck archipelago and the Solomon Islands. The group spans 18 000 square miles with about 200 000 people.

London report from the Daily Express Paris correspondent says in Wednesday’s attack the British wiped out nearly 3,000 German Jager sharpshooters. The German right under General Von Kluck prevented larger losses and potential capture of part of Emperor William’s fleet. Continued on page seven.
