All school officials unanimously elect Richard Hines Jr whose term expired today to secretary. The report notes Monk Jr resigation from the school board and confirms continued leadership within the district.
S Murphy reelected superintendent and Dc F Vigor reassigned as assistant superintendent. Dr Toulmin Gaines reelected medical inspector and Mrs E H Broun re-elected stenographer. Dr Daniel T McCall elected to school board to replace Wm H Monk Jr who resigned. Richard Hines Jr reelected secretary for four years.
The Mobile school board seated two new Citronelle district representatives F R Peterson and G T Jordan. A new Mobile history by Peter Joe Hamilton will be used in sixth and seventh grades for five years, with a $1 cost to pupils.
Sheriff T. T. Palmer replies to Examiner Gorman's report on Mobile county jail feed costs. He denies eightfold claims, notes Jefferson county bills are higher, and argues justice and law enforcement focus over cost. He criticizes criticism of vagrancy prosecutions and urges governor to understand local conditions.
Col Theodore Roosevelt leader of the Bull Moose party will pass through Mobile on September 23 by Louisville and Nashville Railroad from New Orleans to Birmingham. He arrives by train No 2 at 1 45 a m traveling with a two car special Sunbeam and Mayflower. After Mobile he heads to Birmingham with Mobile followers meeting him on the train. A public talk was not confirmed as details were unclear.
Port officers were duly elected at a noon meeting to fill the harbormaster deputy harbormaster and port warden posts. Marshall Jackson was chosen deputy after John Lindstrom resigned. The meeting included Mayor Laz Schwarz and other officials. Shipping activity was dull due to hurricane danger with the Lowlands sailing to Progreso and Annie to Gulfport for repairs and lumber loading.
Mobile Daily reports that organized trainmen with the Mobile and Ohio Railroad and the Mobile division of Southern Railway may strike for higher wages. Washington conference results awaited tonight to determine action. Union members say decisions rest with their committee and that demands are due. Opinions vary on whether a strike will occur or succeed.
Montgomery Sept 11 trustees of a State Arme Temple organized and elected Ellis of Selma as chairman and J Holloway of Montgomery as secretary. Jacob D Bloch of Mobile named the third member. Trustees contracted with local lodges to use the temple for meetings.
District attorney ready to try Police Lieutenant Charles Becker for the Rosenthal murder July 16 outside the Metropole. Becker’s counsel seek postponement to obtain Hot Sipings Arkansas depositions claiming they implicate Sam Shepps as a defense witness. A change of venue may follow if delays fail. The Hayes verdict in a related corruption case is not expected for a week.
Judge Henry Chamberlain fined Sheriff Thomas T. Palmer $1 for neglect of duty after Palmer failed to ensure a rope barrier blocked court noise and street traffic during sessions. The sheriff blamed Deputy Brannan, but the judge held the sheriff fully responsible and warned against a repeat incident. The fine remained unpaid.
G D Burns counsel for Police Lieutenant Becker has been in Hot Springs seeking affidavits from people spoken to by Sam Schepps, a Rosenthal case witness. Schepps was arrested August 10 after leaving Hot Springs August 1 with Rubin and detectives, arriving in New York August 19. Burns hints at statements by Schepps about Becker and a possible conspiracy, though no affidavits are confirmed.
In Hot Springs on August 13 Sam Schepps gave a sworn statement to Police Chief James Leonard. He said he had not spoken to reporters after his arrest until August 12 and had told no one what he planned to reveal to Mr Whitman and the New York grand jury.
Captain John W. Lilley reported that channel dredging at Alabama Port would injure the King s Bayou oyster reef with prolific juvenile crops. The Alabama Oyster Commission pressed dredging contractors to stop dumping material where reefs lie and sought a conference to arrange safe dumping sites.
The Seeberg Steamship line expands service to the Windward Islands with the recharted Frednes under Captain Rolf Seeberg arriving next week to export cargo. The Atlantis sails tomorrow at full capacity with freight likely to spill into the warehouse, while trade promotions west of the Mississippi drive the growth.

The great council of the several states decided during the Charleston meeting that the Improved Order of Red Men will care for the orphans of deceased members. The annual election of officers was postponed to today due to other business while the convention remains in executive session.
William T. McGowin a Mobile leader in the commission government movement and head of the English Manufacturing Company is a candidate for Mobile postmaster. Petitions circulate among lawyers physicians and business leaders urging his appointment as a Democrat aligned with Woodrow Wilson.

Engineers in increasing numbers highlighted a Kansas convention report showing the 41st Association of Stationery Engineers. Over the past sixteen years a new state organization formed with a membership of 1,990 and more to come.
An American, Scott, was forced to carry a message from Gen Steever to rebel leader Colonel Antoto Rojas. Rojas demanded the sister of Agua Prieta and threatened an assault with 1,000 men if not surrendered within twenty four hours. Federal garrison at Agua Prieta faced about 900 to 1,200 rebels twelve miles south as a heavy, well-equipped force appeared, with the south’s millionaire industrial leader Capultone Capultone noted as possibly a prisoner or in rebel hands.
Brigadier General Steever dispatches describe the battle of Ojinaga with rebels repulsed on the line's far side. The report notes actions near Fort Huachuca and a rebel force around 700 under Rojas and Tampa maneuvering near Naco, with bridges cut and a telephonic update from the federal garrison.

Agua Prieta Sonora September 11 Walter Douglas, missing two days, was found safe with a companion. They fled on a road motor velocipede after rebels seized a bridge, and the men had to be carried past the destroyed spans.
