Antwerp repulsed a German attack on Capelle-au-Bois with heavy German casualties. Thousands of bodies reportedly lay on the field as German forces retreated in disorder toward Vilvorde. Belgian losses were described as not numerous and morale suffered from the setback and artillery losses.
Paris reports a general action starting east of Paris from Nanteuil le Haudouin to Verdun with German forces attempting a southern enveloping move. British and French troops hold, while a decisive Verdun clash could decide the war direction and threaten Paris.
Paris reports from Sept 7 that a second Austrian army facing Krasnosedo in the Lublin region suffered heavy losses and retreated, while Przemsyl remains surrounded. A Havas dispatch notes prisoners released in Lemberg after Russian entry. Times correspondent adds continuation from Petrograd.
The Navarro, a Hamburg American Line steamer, supplied a German warship with coal and provisions off Pensacola in darkness after a fishing tug ran near them. The Navarro had arrived days earlier carrying 6,000 tons of coal and $25,000 in supplies and sailed again late Saturday.

Hanamet suspected of contraband and owner W Katz appeals to the American consul for indemnification.
Early citywide voting for a city commissioner race drew crowds despite Labor Day events. By 10 30 am about 1 260 votes had been cast across 10 polling places with expectations of a total over 3 000. Support for Commissioner Schwarz appeared strong and a second election may be avoided. The ballot listed John Bragg William Doyle Foster Hale Laz Schwarz and Thomas J Young.
