Excavators Find Two Skeletons Buried Near Franklin Street
While laying a 4 inch gas main on the west side of Franklin Street near Dauphin, workers under G H Walpole disinterred two human skeletons in near perfect condition. The first skeleton lay straight but the skull protruded under the sidewalk, feared to uproot a nearby telephone pole. The site was a former Spaniard burial ground and the bodies likely date about a century back. Bones were turned over to the city sexton for burial after reporting to the Board of Health. One worker remarked on the find saying you never can tell what's in this earth.
